Job description

Role Summary
Seeking a Systems Integration Engineer SME to support telecommunications systems within the National Airspace System (NAS). This senior-level role involves serving as a technical mentor and key contributor to the design, integration, and testing of fiber and IP-based circuits. The position requires hands-on technical expertise, leadership in migration projects, and effective communication with stakeholders across multiple locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, integration, and testing of NAS support systems, translating architecture drawings into functional IP network solutions.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of network infrastructure projects, including the migration of legacy TDM circuits to IP-based systems, ensuring seamless cutovers and comprehensive performance testing.
  • Assess requirement documents for system validation, identify necessary design modifications, and communicate updates to engineering teams.
  • Provide direct technical support by working with network protocols and hardware to resolve complex deployment issues across multiple states.
  • Monitor system performance using dashboards, KPIs, and technical reports to ensure network reliability and resilience standards are met for mission-critical aviation data.
  • Develop and deliver clear, actionable status updates, dashboards, and briefings for stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues related to fiber optics, hardware, and software during deployment phases.
  • Ensure compliance with technical specifications and project timelines throughout the system integration process.
  • Support the preparation and review of technical documentation to facilitate ongoing system maintenance and upgrades.
  • Travel regionally as needed to support deployment, testing, and support activities, with travel expenses reimbursed.

Qualifications

  • This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field; or 8+ years of relevant technical experience in lieu of degree.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in telecommunications network engineering, circuit integration, or infrastructure planning.
  • Strong knowledge of BGP, TCP/IP, MPLS, IPv6, and telecommunications infrastructure for TDM-to-IP conversion.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber optic networks, network hardware, server deployments, system testing, and validation.
  • Experience modeling network growth and capacity optimization during system upgrades.
  • Background in ground networks, air-to-ground systems, and related technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of providing technical guidance and stakeholder updates.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing and leading large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Certifications including Cisco CCNA, CCIE, CompTIA Network+, AWS Solutions Architect, INCOSE ASEP, or PMP.
  • Knowledge of FAA BNATCS protocols or similar government network standards.

Publishing Pay Range: $76.00 - $81.00 hourly
This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
