What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a system implementation manager?

To thrive as a System Implementation Manager, you need strong project management skills, technical expertise in IT systems, and typically a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with ERP software, CRM platforms, project management tools like Jira or MS Project, and certifications such as PMP or ITIL is often required. Outstanding communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help drive cross-functional collaboration and manage stakeholder expectations. These skills and qualifications ensure successful system rollouts, minimize disruptions, and align technology solutions with organizational goals.

What are some common challenges faced by a system implementation manager during large-scale deployments?

System Implementation Managers often encounter challenges such as coordinating across multiple departments, managing project timelines, and ensuring clear communication among stakeholders. One significant hurdle is handling unexpected technical issues or integration problems that arise during deployment, which requires quick problem-solving and adaptability. Additionally, balancing user training needs and minimizing disruptions to daily operations are key aspects of the role. Successful managers proactively address these challenges by fostering collaboration, maintaining detailed project plans, and continuously engaging with both technical teams and end-users.

“Join us in building Careers and shaping Experiences Beyond the Box”

About Us

At Atlantic Packaging, every box tells a story and yours begins here. As a proudly Canadian-owned company with over 80 years of excellence in the corrugated packaging industry with operations within North America (Ontario, Quebec and United States), we’re committed to sustainability, customer excellence and community impact. Since 1945, we’ve supported local jobs and built a legacy of trust with our clients and team members. At Atlantic, your ideas matter, your growth is supported and your work makes a real impact.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, HRIS and Analytics, the Sr. Product Owner, HRIS will be a key functional and hands-on lead for Atlantic Packaging’s end-to-end HRIS implementation across Ontario, Quebec and the United States. The successful candidate will deliver the HR Technology product roadmap, lead complex configuration and implementation work, and help establish governance, documentation, release management and sustainment practices for the HRIS function. This is a senior implementation role with significant cross-functional influence and will provide direction to implementation resources and vendor partners while remaining hands-on with system configuration and delivery.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the Sr. Product Owner and functional HRIS configuration lead for the HRIS implementation, with primary focus on Core HCM and related employee lifecycle processes
  • Lead HRIS design, configuration, testing, deployment and stabilization activities across business processes, supervisory organizations, position management, job profiles, security roles, calculated fields, reports, dashboards, data conversion and integrations
  • Partner with HR COEs, Payroll, Finance, IT, Operations and external implementation partners to understand requirements and resolve complex process or system issues
  • Own and maintain the HRIS product backlog, configuration governance, documentation standards, release planning and enhancement prioritization in alignment with the HRIS roadmap
  • Support the end-to-end HRIS implementation across Ontario, Quebec and the United States, ensuring regional requirements, unionized environments, hourly and salaried populations and manufacturing operations are considered in design decisions
  • Lead data readiness and migration activities, including data mapping, validation, issue resolution, audit routines and alignment to HR data governance standards
  • Work with technical and integration teams to define and validate data flows between HRIS, payroll providers, time systems, finance, identity management, benefits and reporting platforms
  • Lead testing cycles, UAT coordination, defect triage, cutover preparation, training support, hypercare and post go-live stabilization for assigned workstreams
  • Build, maintain and support HR analytics, dashboards and reporting solutions that provide accurate workforce insights and enable data-driven decision-making across HR, Finance and business leadership

What You Bring

Required

  • 5-7 years of hands-on HRIS experience with a strong focus on configuration, implementation, optimization and sustainment
  • Proven expertise in Core HCM and business process configuration; experience with one or more of Recruiting, Onboarding, Talent, Learning, Compensation, Absence, Time Tracking, Reporting or Security is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading an end-to-end HRIS implementation, including requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, testing, data migration, go-live and hypercare
  • Strong understanding of HR processes across the employee lifecycle, including hire-to-retire data, job changes, position management, compensation changes, recruiting, onboarding, performance, learning and workforce reporting
  • Experience working with integrations, data conversion, reporting, calculated fields, EIBs, security roles and downstream data dependencies with payroll, finance, identity and time systems.
  • Ability to operate with senior-level accountability while remaining hands-on with configuration, testing, troubleshooting and documentation

Preferred

  • HRIS certification (For eg. Workday, Dayforce, SAP, UKG etc.) in HCM, Recruiting, Talent, Reporting, Security or related modules.
  • Experience in unionized, hourly, salaried or multi-location environments.
  • Familiarity with payroll, time and attendance, benefits, or operational systems that depend on accurate HR master data.
  • Experience creating dashboards, standard reports, data quality controls and executive-ready HRIS insights.

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage (dependents included)
  • Teamwork-focused culture with sustainability initiatives and social events
  • A culture of appreciation through a point-based recognition
  • Opportunities for advancement and internal movement
