Job Summary:
Provides Tier III system administration and enterprise datacenter support and other federal enterprise environments. This role supports Windows and Linux server infrastructure, virtualization platforms, storage, backup and recovery operations, and security compliance in accordance with DOI OIT and federal standards. The position also serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for shared services datacenter initiatives and leads complex technical projects across teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Tier III system administration support for enterprise Windows and Linux environments
  • Administer and maintain Windows Server (2016 and above) and Linux operating systems
  • Manage and support Active Directory, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), DNS, DHCP, and related identity services
  • Support virtualization platforms including VMware and Hyper-V
  • Perform system patching, monitoring, performance tuning, and resource optimization
  • Manage backup and recovery operations for enterprise Data Operations Centers (DOC)
  • Execute system hardening and ensure compliance with STIGs, security baselines, and federal regulations
  • Support hardware and software upgrades, operational configurations, and lifecycle management
  • Utilize and support industry-standard datacenter physical security tools and applications
  • Work with DCIM tools to monitor and manage datacenter infrastructure
  • Develop and maintain system documentation including SOPs, configurations, change records, and project documentation
  • Coordinate with Network, Security, and Datacenter teams to resolve complex issues
  • Provide Tier II/III escalation support and mentoring to lower-tier support staff
  • Lead and contribute to enterprise IT projects and shared services datacenter initiatives
  • Serve as an SME for enterprise datacenter technologies and solutions
  • Communicate effectively across departments through written documentation, verbal communication, and presentations

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree, technical training certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience supporting enterprise or datacenter-level IT environments
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Windows Server (2016+)
  • Linux operating systems
  • Active Directory and enterprise Microsoft technologies
  • VMware virtualization platforms
  • Experience with backup and recovery, system patching, monitoring, and performance tuning
  • Experience working in federal, regulated, or compliance-driven environments
  • Knowledge of industry-standard datacenter physical security tools and applications
  • Familiarity with DCIM tools and datacenter infrastructure management

Preferred / Additional Skills
  • Basic knowledge of scripting and programming languages such as:

  • C#
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve highly complex technical issues independently
