Job description

Position Title: Assistant Manager
Reports to: General Manager
Classification: Salary
Department: Assistant Manager
The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment with ever-changing challenges. The building materials supply industry is one in which time is money. Leading a team that is efficient, accurate, and dedicated to being productive is key. Being able to build relationships with customers and coworkers is a trait the ideal candidate must possess. Success will come easily to someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and jump in wherever/whenever needed.
Purpose of Position: Accountable for the overall administrative and logistical functions of the store's day-to-day operations, assisting the General Manager as needed.
Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without reasonable accommodation)
• Maintain standards of business control and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Manage inventory control functions, including inventory ordering, loss prevention, and inventory accuracy.
• Monitor inventory records and recommend corrective actions for slow-moving, excess, or non-usable merchandise.
• Oversee special order processes to ensure compliance with company procedures and accurate documentation.
• Assist in determining work procedures, preparing work schedules, and monitoring daily workflow.
• Provide guidance to employees on proper handling, storage, and shipment of merchandise.
• Investigate and resolve customer concerns related to damaged merchandise, pricing discrepancies, invoicing, and shipping delays.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with key customers through regular communication and exceptional customer service.
• Assist the General Manager in tracking sales performance, including sales volume, gross margin, product category growth, and target customer development.
• Monitor sales performance reports and identify trends or opportunities requiring follow-up.
• Prepare and distribute sales reports, forecasts, and other performance metrics to support business planning.
• Coordinate sales meetings, training sessions, performance documentation, and onboarding activities for the Outside Sales team in conjunction with the General Manager.
• Collaborate with the General Manager and Outside Sales Representatives to support customer opportunities and sales initiatives.
• Provide prompt, courteous customer service by answering telephone inquiries and assisting customers at the sales counter as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while adhering to company safety policies, dress code, and training requirements.
• Assist supervisors and team members with operational needs and assume responsibility for store operations in the absence of the General Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Education
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED)

Experience
  • One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without reasonable accommodation)
  • Administrative skills including assigning work, discipline, evaluating, planning, supervision, and training
  • Basic math skills
