Job Description:

Robotics & Digital Solutions, a part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting a Robotics Systems Integration Sustaining Lead, located in Santa Clara, CA, to lead technical efforts in supporting deployed surgical robotics platforms.

At J&J Robotics, we're changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers' abilities and improve patients' diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times. J&J Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA), Flexible Robotics (MONARCH), and Digital Solutions. Join our collaborative, rapidly growing team where you'll create breakthrough medical technologies that unite multiple subject areas to build a connected digital ecosystem that advances medical professionals' skills and improves patient outcomes.

In this role, you will serve as the technical lead and primary Systems Integration point of contact for crossfunctional teams responsible for lifecycle support for deployed OTTAVA surgical robotics systems. You will triage field issues and drive resolution by engaging the appropriate technical experts. In addition, you will play a hands-on role in diagnosing issues, performing rigorous root cause analyses, and developing a deep understanding of underlying failure mechanisms. You will lead the development and implementation of mitigations for critical issues. You will collaborate closely with hardware and software engineering teams to drive design changes to prevent recurrence in future system releases.

Core Job Responsibilities:
  • Technical ownership for lifecycle support of deployed surgical robotics systems to ensure continued safety, performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance
  • Triage field and manufacturing failures through hands-on investigations to isolate the problem and engage the appropriate technical experts.
  • Lead and conduct root cause analysis of field and manufacturing failures and investigate complex edge cases, applying deep expertise in mechatronics and a broad system mindset to triage issues
  • Implement, integrate, document, and deploy mitigations for critical issues, and engage cross-functional teams as needed (e.g., hardware, software, operations, manufacturing, and service).
  • Manage and perform component end-of-life (EOL) activities, including impact/risk assessment and definition of mitigation plans
  • Improve sustaining processes in collaboration with cross-functional teams
Qualifications:
  • BS or MS in Computer, Electrical, or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems integration, hardware engineering, robotics, mechatronics, mechanical, or biomedical engineering roles in industry is required
  • 2+ years of experience in sustaining engineering, product lifecycle support, or related engineering roles is preferred
  • Hands-on experience prototyping, designing, debugging, integrating, and validating electromechanical systems with actuators and sensors is required.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and/or C++ for programming, scripting, and modifying existing code is required.
  • Experience effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders is required
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and project management skills, proven through the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven experience analyzing the root cause of issues and decomposing complex engineering issues into solvable problems is preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work on-site in Santa Clara, California is required.
