Job Description
Co-op - Robotics Mechatronics, Surgical Robotics - Cambridge, MA - January 2027
Join Philips to help shape the next generation of surgical robotics. In this 6-9 month internship, you will work with a multidisciplinary R&D team to design, build, and evaluate a robotic testbed for image-guided surgical robotics applications.
Your role:
  • Design, build, and test a robotic mechatronics testbed for surgical robotics applications.
  • Develop and integrate mechanical components, motion stages, sensors, actuators, and control hardware.
  • Support integration of the testbed with robotic control algorithms, prototype user interfaces, and software components.
  • Use rapid prototyping methods, including CAD, 3D printing, assembly, soldering, wiring, and benchtop testing.
  • Document designs, experiments, and test results clearly for use by the broader robotics team.

You're the right fit if:
  • You are currently pursuing a BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • You have hands-on experience with mechatronics design, prototyping, motion control, robotics, or hardware integration.
  • You are familiar with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, rapid prototyping, 3D printing, servo actuation, motion controllers, or basic PCB and wiring work. Demonstrated software and coding skills are a strong plus.
  • You have interest in surgical robotics, image-guided interventions, medical devices, or healthcare technology.
  • You are curious, hands-on, organized, and comfortable working in a collaborative R&D lab environment.
  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.

How we work together
We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company's facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company's main facilities, generally at the customers' or suppliers' locations.
This is an office role.
