Summary:
The Scheduling & Billing Specialist is responsible for various aspects of scheduling and billing in the clinic. Specific duties may include:Scheduling incoming referrals with the patient and referring clinician, working the electronic referral, and mailing the patient new patient paperwork.Managing outgoing referrals appointment for patients at referral source, verifying insurance eligibility, obtaining authorization for certain outgoing procedures and/or visits, and obtaining documentation following the patient's referral appointment.Fulfilling Medical Records Requests- whether it be urgent requests in the offices or sending them to STAT and following up with the status of requests for patients/companies.Scheduling surgeries in the pediatric and adult specialty operating rooms. Working closely with the OR team in utilizing block time and scheduling procedures within providers schedules.Obtaining pre-authorizations for procedures that we schedule within our practice and local facilities for our providers.Arranging surgeon schedule to accommodate urgent surgeries vs. routine surgeries.Coordinating surgeries scheduled with other surgeons as needed.Coordinating with appropriate vendors to make them aware of surgeries scheduled.Informing patients of scheduled procedures at local and outside facilities with our surgeons.Preparing/prepping clinic records for upcoming appointments and ensuring that patients have all imaging/procedures completed prior to following up with our office.Working work queues within Epic to fix claim edits and charge review errors.Scheduling peer to peer with insurance company and arranging time on providers schedule to complete.Answer phones, confirm appointments and address patient questions.Help with rescheduling appointments as needed.Verifying patient insurance for upcoming appointments.
Scanning in all office documents and outside records.
Requirements:
Education/Experience:
Required - High School Graduate and 2 years' experience in the medical field. Successful completion of a medical terminology course or must complete within one year of assuming position.
Knowledge/Skills Abilities:
Excellent multi-tasking and attention to detail. Must have ability to communicate clearly and kindly with patients, clinicians, and co-workers. Ability to maintain confidentiality and observe HIPAA compliance.
Preferred:
Completion of Medical Secretary or Medical Assistant Program.
