Required: Professional certification required (i.e., ACE, AFAA). Advanced knowledge and understanding of proper exercise techniques and skills The group fitness instructor must have the ability to effectively educate and demonstrate to participants these techniques and skills. Familiarity with basic physiology and major muscle groups. Maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Maintain DCFS Mandated Reporter certificate or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
Preferred: Prefer High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer work experience in the fitness related field and previous experience instructing fitness activities
Essential Functions of the PositionPark District Cornerstones - Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District's safety and risk management program.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
- Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
- Comply with Park District policies and administrative procedures.
ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervisor of the Superintendent of Recreation, and the Assistant Superintendent of Recreation - Norris Recreation Center, the Group Fitness Instructor shall complete their assigned duties to the best of their abilities, offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and be ever mindful of the best interests of the St. Charles Park District and of fellow employees. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:
- Work cooperatively and harmoniously with the general public, cooperating agencies and fellow employees.
- Provide information and assistance to fellow employees.
- Effectively communicate to provide a welcoming environment during class and provide feedback.
- Operate Group Fitness and/or Cycle Studio sound equipment.
- Develop exciting and motivational group fitness routines.
- Arrive to class prepared to teach.
- Effectively demonstrate and teach fitness skills ranging from beginning to advanced skills.
- Use group fitness equipment correctly to ensure safety of participants.
- Motivate participants to perform well during classes as well as continue attending classes.
- Monitor participants during class to ensure proper form.
- Follow all safety procedures that pertain to duties involved.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of studios.
- Communicate with supervisor regarding equipment needs, equipment repairs, and substitution requests.
- Perform first aid, AED, and CPR and execute emergency procedures as necessary.
Marginal Functions of the Position - Assist with special projects.
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
- Set up and take down studios for class.
