Job description

Overview
Transcription services and office functions associated with the Pathology section.
Responsibilities
Coordinates and performs routine and complex tasks using acquired skills of the principles of office, transcription and computer management to facilitate the report, distribution and management of pathology data for use in the treatment of disease, continuation of patient care and billing. Performs specimen processing to various send-out reference labs and incorporates results into pathology reports upon completion. Dispatch pathology staff for various procedures. Effective communication skills for telephone inquiries, requesting pathology materials, contacting physician offices for various requests and or clarification, communication with reference laboratories, other departments and other medical facilities. Maintains inventory for various reference labs, shipping containers and shipping materials. Maintain schedules for pathologists at various locations. Printing and maintain OR schedule and cytology procedure schedule for pathologists. Maintain slides and blocks, per CAP requirements and send-out policy. Prepares departmental tumor boards, legal cases and autopsy documentation. Provides backup support for additional departmental needs including other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A high school diploma, medical terminology, typing, and computer skills. Previous experience in all areas of pathology lab office.
