Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers across the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. We are seeking a Legal Support Assistant to support high-performing partners and attorneys in our Regulatory Practice in the Washington, D.C. office.

This is a proactive and strategic role designed to drive productivity and the operational success of our law firm. The Legal Support Assistant will handle high-value tasks such as supporting client relations, overseeing sensitive projects, client pitches, marketing, and anticipating other needs of senior partners and other attorneys. 

This role will reside in the Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities. The applicant will be expected to perform all job duties with a commitment to providing superior service to clients, producing quality work products, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Manage complex projects, including support in cross border investigations, litigation, and other regulatory compliance matters.
  • Manage billing processes and budgets.
  • Oversee client communications.
  • Deliver strategic administrative and practice support that enables attorneys to focus on client service, business development, and matter execution.
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and compliant case and client files within the firm's document management system.
  • Serve as a key liaison with the Administrative Resource Center to drive efficient matter intake, billing, time entry, and expense reporting processes.
  • Manage complex calendars, communications, meetings, calls, practice events, and attorney availability with a high level of professionalism and judgment.
  • Ensure timely preparation, quality control, distribution, filing, and transmission of work product across appropriate channels.
  • Review, proofread, and redline documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, formatting integrity, and professional presentation.
  • Research, compile, and maintain critical client, matter, and working group information to support informed decision-making and seamless service delivery.
  • Partner with internal departments and third-party service providers to resolve issues, streamline workflow, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Monitor and coordinate CLE compliance requirements to support attorney professional obligations.
  • Support broader practice operations and special projects as assigned

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Bachelor's Degree and interest in a legal career, either as a future lawyer or senior role in the business of law;
  • Recent college graduates are welcome to apply;
  • Prior experience in a large multinational law firm is preferred, but not required;
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, take initiative, set priorities and see projects through completion
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks, and respond to changing priorities
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships within the office and firm, and with clients, vendors and others outside the firm

The anticipated base salary range for this position in Washington, DC is $55,000-$65,000  The actual salary offered will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, years of relevant experience, certifications or other professional licenses held, job-related knowledge and skills, business needs, and the location from which the work will be performed.  Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package, which may also include a full range of health and other insurance benefits, financial and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility), a discretionary bonus, and various paid time off benefits.  Additional information about benefits and rewards can be found here.
