Position Overview

The Residential Site Superintendent is the primary point person on the jobsite, responsible for managing and directing the work of crew members and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

This role combines strong carpentry skills with leadership, organization, communication, and problem-solving abilities. The ideal candidate is both highly capable in the field and confident managing people, schedules, materials, subcontractors, and client interactions.

This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for an experienced carpenter who thrives in a team-driven, high-expectation environment.

Key Responsibilities

Jobsite Leadership & Crew Management

  • Lead day-to-day jobsite operations, subcontractor coordination, and crew management
  • Provide leadership that keeps crews working efficiently toward defined project goals
  • Foster a respectful, team-oriented jobsite culture by supporting all crew members regardless of skill level
  • Supervise, mentor, and train field staff to ensure craftsmanship, efficiency, and accountability
  • Organize daily workflow and sequencing to maximize productivity and minimize overtime
  • Conduct brief daily crew meetings to review progress, answer questions, and ensure accurate time tracking
  • Coordinate labor and crew scheduling with Project Managers and other Site Supervisors across ongoing projects

Carpentry & Field Operations

  • Perform hands-on carpentry work and support field crews as needed
  • Interpret and execute construction plans, specifications, and design intent accurately
  • Prepare jobsites for subcontractors and ensure work areas remain safe, clean, and organized
  • Maintain high standards of craftsmanship and proactively solve field issues
  • Ensure all punch list and project close-out tasks are completed thoroughly

Project Coordination & Communication

  • Collaborate closely with the Project Manager during planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution
  • Run weekly client meetings and distribute meeting notes promptly
  • Maintain clear communication with clients, architects, designers, inspectors, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Communicate anticipated schedule impacts or delays clearly and proactively
  • Request support from Project Managers or Architects when needed to clarify design intent or resolve issues
  • Ensure strong responsiveness to calls, texts, and emails from clients and project team members

Scheduling, Budgeting & Documentation

  • Help maintain project schedules and support on-time project delivery
  • Monitor project budgets and assist in controlling costs
  • Ensure all crew members understand job cost codes and verify timesheet accuracy weekly
  • Coordinate with suppliers and Project Managers to ensure materials and special orders arrive on time
  • Limit unnecessary supplier trips through strong planning and organization
  • Assist with generating and managing change orders before additional work begins
  • Maintain reliable jobsite documentation, notebooks, receipts, and records
  • Submit coded receipts and paperwork accurately and on time

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain personal, crew, and jobsite safety at all times
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, local regulations, permits, inspections, and jobsite signage requirements
  • Schedule and oversee required building inspections
  • Acquire and maintain all required licenses and certifications

Qualifications

  • Strong carpentry background with residential construction experience
  • Proven experience leading crews and coordinating subcontractors
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail
  • Comfortable using company-provided technology and project management software
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work professionally with clients, architects, designers, and tradespeople
