What are superheroes?

Superheroes are fictional characters, often found in comic books, movies, and television, who possess extraordinary abilities or powers and use them to protect the public and fight against villains. They typically have a strong moral code, secret identities, and often wear distinctive costumes. Superheroes can have superhuman strengths, advanced technology, or special skills that set them apart from ordinary people. Their stories usually focus on battling threats to society and inspiring hope in others.

What are some common challenges superheroes face when balancing teamwork and independent missions?

Superheroes often juggle working solo on personal missions with collaborating on larger team efforts. A common challenge is ensuring clear communication and trust among team members, especially when responsibilities overlap or priorities differ. Many superheroes develop strong conflict resolution and leadership skills to navigate these dynamics, leading to personal growth and more effective teamwork.

Job description

Superhero Sketching Internship

The Skirball Cultural Center is seeking an intern for an art and museum-focused summer internship. This internship will be held in-person for 10 weeks from mid-June to mid-August. The intern will work approximately 18 hours. The schedule is Thursdays and Fridays, 11:30 am-4:30 pm, and Saturdays, 9:30 am-4:30 pm. There will be additional hours provided for training, workshops, and networking opportunities.

Compensation: The Superhero Sketching Internship is a part-time, limited term position with a rate of $18.50/hr.

Responsibilities:

The intern will lead a drop-in program at the Skirball exhibition Inventing America: The Comic Book Revolution, hand-drawing comic style sketches and interacting with museum visitors in this unique arts education experience. This expansive exhibition looks at the characters and stories from comics that have defined America's perception in the public consciousness, and how the industry's creators brought their own cultural backgrounds and personal experiences to bear in their work

The intern will create hand drawn sketches based on the works found in the exhibition, discuss comics and comic style sketching techniques, and assist visitors in creating sketches of their own. We are looking for candidates that are passionate about creating warm, welcoming arts education experiences for visitors of all ages (2 to 102!) and have interest and experience with comic sketching.

Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student (students who just graduated the semester or quarter before the internship begins are also eligible)

  • Ability to work directly with families and visitors of all ages and backgrounds in a warm and welcoming manner
  • Ability to work as a team player with a professional, positive attitude
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multisensory, stimulating work environment

Eligibility:

Applicants must be currently enrolled as a full -time undergraduate student in either a Bachelor's degree program or an Associate's degree program. Students must have completed at least one semester or two quarters of college by June 2026. Students who graduated this semester or quarter immediately before the internship begins are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.)

Deadline: May 15, 2026

Employment Type: PART_TIME
