Department: Administrative / Patient Access

Job Description
Nurse Practitioner On Call LLC provides psychiatric and mental health services across Maryland. We are seeking a detail-oriented Front Desk to serve as the first point of contact for patients and referral sources. This role is central to patient access, scheduling, and the accurate verification of insurance benefits. The ideal candidate brings behavioral health intake experience and a strong working knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance verification.
Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist patients and callers professionally, in person and by phone, maintaining a calm and supportive presence appropriate to a behavioral health setting.
  • Verify patient eligibility and benefits for Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial payers prior to appointments.
  • Confirm behavioral health coverage details, including copays, deductibles, coinsurance, prior authorization requirements, visit limits, and telehealth/mobile-service coverage.
  • Obtain and document prior authorizations and referrals as required by each payer.
  • Schedule, confirm, and reschedule appointments; manage provider calendars and coordinate mobile-visit logistics.
  • Collect, verify, and accurately enter demographic and insurance information into the practice management/EHR system.
  • Communicate patient financial responsibility clearly and collect copays and balances at time of service.
  • Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Coordinate with billing staff to resolve eligibility discrepancies and reduce claim denials.
  • Support referral intake from hospitals, primary care providers, and community partners.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of front desk/patient access experience in a healthcare setting; behavioral health or psychiatric experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of insurance verification for Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance plans.
  • Familiarity with Maryland Medicaid managed care organizations and behavioral health benefit structures.
  • Working knowledge of prior authorization and referral processes.
  • Proficiency with EHR/practice management systems and standard office software.
  • Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
  • Demonstrated discretion and professionalism handling sensitive patient information (HIPAA).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a mental health or psychiatric practice.
  • Experience with telehealth or mobile-service scheduling.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or other) a plus.
  • Familiarity with eligibility portals (e.g., Carelon, Availity, Novitasphere, NaviNet).
