Clinical Faculty - Syracuse, NY
Position Description
The State University of New York College of Optometry is accepting applications for full-time clinical faculty for its program located at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. The inaugural class of students will begin in Fall 2027, offering faculty members the unique opportunity to help shape the development of a new campus while contributing to clinical care, education, and interprofessional collaboration.
Successful candidates will be expected to contribute significantly to building the College's new program in Syracuse while meeting the mission of excellence in patient care, teaching, and scholarly activity. Initial faculty responsibilities will include collaborative planning for program development and didactic teaching in small-group laboratories and seminars. Direct patient care and clinical supervision of students will be incorporated as clinical operations expand. Participation in clinical research is encouraged. Occasional travel to the College's New York City campus will be expected to support cross-campus collaboration and the integration of the Syracuse campus into the broader College community.
SUNY College of Optometry, in partnership with SUNY Upstate Medical University, is dedicated to fostering a vibrant intellectual community of clinicians, educators, and researchers who work together on educational and clinical research initiatives. Candidates should have a record of educational and scholarly activity appropriate for their level of experience. The start date is flexible, with an anticipated appointment beginning in Winter of 2026-27.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of career goals and interests, any representative publications, and the names and contact information of three references. These positions will remain open until filled.
Clinical faculty at the Syracuse campus will be appointed to the SUNY College of Optometry faculty with all the benefits, responsibilities, expectations, and participation in governance as the faculty at the main campus in New York City. The position requires a Doctor of Optometry degree. Residency training or advanced degrees are highly desirable. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in New York State at time of hire.
The salary range is $102,000 to $130,000. Salary is commensurate with education, training, and experience and includes a generous benefit package with fifteen days of annual leave per year and thirteen paid holidays per year.
