Construction Business Systems Analyst

Sun Mountain LLC

Sun Mountain LLC provides professional services for utility and infrastructure projects. The Sun Mountain Team has core competencies in civil infrastructure and utilities, construction management, project management and project controls.

The leadership team of Sun Mountain is composed of military veterans, which reflects the company's values of teamwork and commitment. Position overview:

We are seeking a Construction Business Systems Analyst who is passionate about helping construction teams succeed through technology, process improvement, and data-driven decision making.

In this role, you will work directly with construction managers, field personnel, project controls, leadership, and IT partners to improve the way construction projects are executed. Success in this position requires someone who enjoys solving problems, supporting users, analyzing data, and driving adoption of digital tools.

This is not a traditional IT position. We are looking for someone who understands construction operations and enjoys working with people just as much as technology.

This is a DOT covered classification and subject to random drug testing.

This is a hybrid role with about 2 days in the office a week. Travel is estimated to be about 10% of the time.

Territory of Reasonability:

This position will be centralized in the Sacramento and Roseville area; however, you may be responsible to drive (about 10% of the time) to project sites/locations. Mileage and meals will be paid for. You will be assigned a local office, however you will be working a hybrid role (about 2 days a week in office).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Partner with construction managers and field personnel to improve business processes and workflows
  • Train and support users on construction applications, reporting tools, and digital processes
  • Develop dashboards and reports using tools such as Excel, Power BI, SQL, or similar platforms
  • Investigate data discrepancies and work with cross-functional teams to identify root causes
  • Gather business requirements and translate operational needs into technical solutions
  • Drive user adoption of new tools and processes through training, documentation, and ongoing support
  • Monitor data quality and recommend improvements that increase reporting accuracy
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across construction operations
  • Balance requests from operations, leadership, reporting teams, and technology partners while managing priorities effectively
  • 10% Field
  • Healthy to run auger much of every day

  • Microsoft Suite – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Google Earth – Navigation and the creation & manipulation of KMZ files
  • Customer-specific databases

  • Outlook – email, calendar scheduling
  • GIS user knowledge

Qualifications/qualities we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years supporting construction, utility, engineering, or infrastructure operations
  • Experience implementing or supporting business systems used by field personnel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with Power BI, SQL, or other reporting platforms. If not familiar with some of these, the successful candidate will have the ability to learn quickly
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Strong customer service mindset with a focus on supporting end users
  • US Work Authorization
  • Prioritizes safety in all facets of the job and perpetuates a safety culture
  • Ability to be a self-starter

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Utility construction or heavy civil construction experience
  • Experience with work management systems, GIS, SAP, Maximo, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar platforms
  • Knowledge of change management principles
  • Experience facilitating training sessions for field personnel
  • Background in process improvement or Lean methodologies
