Summer Camp Health Director
Seasonal Position | Summer 2026

Academy Summer is seeking a qualified and compassionate Health Director to oversee health, wellness, and medical services for our summer camp programs. This position is an essential role within our camp community and is responsible for ensuring compliance with New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) regulations while supporting the day-to-day health needs of campers and staff.

We are looking for a proactive individual who enjoys working with children and can confidently manage both routine care and unexpected medical situations in a fast-paced camp environment.

Seasonal Leadership Position
Reports To: Director of Summer Programs
Focus: Camper & Staff Health, Medical Compliance, Safety Oversight & Daily Operations

Hours: 8:00-4:30 daily

Compensation: $185-$200/day

Position Responsibilities
  • Serve as the designated Health Director for Academy Summer Programs in accordance with NYSDOH camp regulations
  • Review camper and staff medical forms, immunization records, allergies, medications, and health histories prior to the start of camp
  • Maintain confidential health records and medication documentation
  • Administer medications and provide first aid and basic medical care to campers and staff as needed
  • Assess illnesses and injuries and communicate with families regarding health concerns
  • Coordinate and maintain camp medical supplies, first aid kits, and health office organization
  • Collaborate with camp administration to implement and maintain the camp’s written Medical Plan and health procedures
  • Ensure proper sanitation, illness prevention, and health protocols are followed throughout camp
  • Complete required incident documentation and reporting procedures
  • Be available during camp operating hours as required by the camp’s approved safety plan
  • Participate in select pre-camp planning and compliance tasks prior to the start of the summer season
Qualifications

Applicants must hold valid New York State credentials in one of the following:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Nurse Practitioner (NP)
  • Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Physician
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Candidates must also possess:

  • Current NYSDOH-accepted CPR certification
  • Current First Aid/Emergency Response certification as required by NYSDOH
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
Schedule

This is a seasonal summer position with required daily hours of 8:00-4:30PM. Some pre-season responsibilities and planning meetings occur prior to the start of summer programs/camp opening.
