What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Summer Teaching professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Summer Teaching professional, you generally need a background in education, subject matter expertise, and often a teaching credential or relevant experience. Familiarity with classroom technology, digital learning platforms, and curriculum planning tools is highly valuable. Strong communication, creativity, and adaptability help engage students and manage diverse classroom needs. These skills and qualities ensure effective instruction, foster positive learning environments, and maximize student engagement during condensed summer sessions.

What are some common challenges faced by summer teachers, and how can they be addressed?

Summer teaching often involves working with students of diverse backgrounds and varying academic levels in a condensed timeframe. A common challenge is keeping students engaged during shorter, intensive sessions, especially since summer programs may be less structured than the regular school year. To address this, successful summer teachers use interactive activities, flexible lesson plans, and regular feedback to maintain motivation and adapt to student needs. Collaboration with other educators and open communication with program coordinators also help ensure a supportive, effective learning environment.

What is summer teaching?

Summer teaching refers to educational positions where instructors teach courses, workshops, or programs during the summer months, often outside of the traditional academic year. These roles can be found in schools, camps, colleges, or community organizations and may involve teaching academic subjects, enrichment activities, or specialized skills. Summer teaching offers educators the opportunity to gain additional experience, earn extra income, and help students continue learning over the summer break.

Job description

Do you light up when you’re in front of a group?

Do students naturally gravitate toward your energy?

Would you rather actually teach and inspire students instead of drowning in paperwork, grading, and bureaucracy?

If so, this may be one of the most fun and rewarding part-time teaching opportunities in Orlando.

Tried & True Education is hiring charismatic, high-energy instructors to teach SAT prep and academic enrichment classes for high school students this summer.

This is not a traditional tutoring job. We are building a team of exceptional instructors who know how to command a room, connect with students, make learning engaging, and create real momentum in a classroom. Our best instructors include:

  • Passionate teachers
  • Performers and actors
  • Youth pastors and youth leaders
  • Coaches and mentors
  • Strong communicators who genuinely enjoy being in front of people

What Makes This Different

No Lesson Planning

We provide the curriculum, materials, structure, and training.

No Grading or Bureaucracy

Your focus is teaching, engaging students, and creating a great classroom experience.

Premium Pay

Starting at $55/hour.

Real Support

You will receive paid training, coaching, and ongoing support from experienced instructors.

Meaningful Work

We work primarily with low-income and first-generation students preparing for college opportunities many never thought were possible.

Consistent Summer Hours

We have substantial summer programming booked, with weekday morning and afternoon classes available.

Strong instructors may also continue with us during the school year through afterschool programs, evening classes, and Saturday academies.

About the Students

Our students are bright, capable, and often underestimated. Many are first-generation college-bound students from underserved communities. They do not need boring lectures or robotic instructors. They need instructors who can:

  • make them feel confident
  • keep them engaged
  • explain difficult concepts clearly
  • create an environment where learning feels exciting and possible

That is what our best instructors do exceptionally well.

You Do NOT Need SAT Tutoring Experience

Most of our instructors did not come from traditional SAT prep companies. We will train you thoroughly.

You do need:

  • comfort with high school level math and verbal concepts
  • strong communication skills
  • reliability and professionalism
  • the ability to lead and engage a classroom

We are specifically looking for people who are:

  • extremely reliable
  • high-energy and engaging
  • comfortable speaking in front of groups
  • positive and encouraging with students
  • professional and dependable
  • excited by the idea of teaching live classes

Schedule

Summer classes primarily take place:

  • weekday mornings
  • weekday afternoons

School-year opportunities may include:

  • weekday evenings
  • Saturday mornings

We do not hold classes on Sundays.

Requirements

  • Reliable transportation
  • Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress
  • Strong communication skills
  • Comfort with high school academic material
  • Prior teaching, tutoring, coaching, mentoring, ministry, camp, theater, or youth leadership experience is a plus
