Job description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the 4K Wrap Director, the Lead Teacher II is responsible for coordinating daily activities in an early learning program and providing a safe and nurturing environment for early childhood-aged children. This is a year-round position that will transition to camp responsibilities during the summer.
The Lead Teacher II Offsite 4K Wrap & Camp is assigned to sites that average 13 or more 4K students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and actively participate in the daily activities of a group of children in order to engage students and monitor safety.
  2. Serve as a role model to staff and participants and act as the on-site supervisor of the 4K Wrap program.
  3. Develop positive relationships with the staff, families, and children while providing motivational support and guidance, including parent conferences and handling complaints in a courteous, patient manner using problem solving techniques.
  4. Build a professional collaboration with local school district administration and staff to develop programming that aligns with district values, policies, and procedures.
  5. Maintain participant records and other documentation in accordance with department requirements.
  6. Ensure safety and cleanliness of learning spaces and classrooms.
  7. Follow the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County's emergency procedures to ensure the safety of all children, including but not limited to, communicating with supervisor regarding any emergency concerns or situations.
  8. Uphold the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community.
  9. Follow all relevant regulations from the Department of Children and Families, Young Star, or other regulatory agencies.
  10. Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  11. Other duties as necessary and as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. Must be at least 18 years of age and have 240 hours of experience in an approved education setting.
  2. Must have completed high school or equivalent.
  3. Must meet all Child Care Licensing requirements including one of the following: 2 DCF-approved courses in early childhood education (credit or non-credit) or the school-age care equivalent; 48 credits from an institution of higher education with at least 3 credits in early childhood education or school-age growth and development; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education; a Child Development Association credential; or otherwise qualified as a School-Age Program Leader through The Wisconsin Registry.
  4. Minimum of 240 hours of related experience working with early childhood or school-aged children in an approved setting.
  5. Must be able willing to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, Abusive Head Trauma, Mandated Reporter, Wisconsin Registry certification, and additional non-credit coursework (as needed) within specified time frame.
  6. Must have a sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
  8. Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  9. Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  10. Exhibit the core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. and work indoors and outdoors; must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children; see and hear well enough to keep children safe; and engage in physical activity with children.
