What You'll Actually Do

Chevron is hiring Land Intern roles at various operating locations across the U.S, including:

  • Houston, TX

  • Covington, LA

  • Midland, TX

  • Greeley, CO

As a Land Intern, you will gain valuable hands-on experience working within an asset team in one of Chevron's dynamic business segments. You will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful, real-world projects with direct business impact.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop a strong understanding of the upstream and downstream oil and gas business through a summer-long Land project, along with smaller assignments to provide exposure to multiple Land teams.

  • Gain insight into Chevron's operations, people, and culture including exposure to both traditional oil and gas and New Energies.

  • Support negotiations with external partners and landowners and assist in drafting agreements related to oil and gas exploration and production activities.

  • Perform title research and analysis for exploration, development, workover, and plug and abandonment wells.

  • Provide Land support to multidisciplinary teams to help stakeholders make informed, strategic business decisions on agreements and land ownership matters.

  • Interact with federal and state agencies on oil and gas regulatory issues.

  • Work closely with a dedicated mentor and buddy who will provide guidance, support, and professional development throughout the summer.

  • Present your project and key learnings to senior leadership at the conclusion of the internship

What You Must Have

The following qualifications are required:

  • Effective communication skills: Express thoughts effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Desire to learn and provide/accept feedback: Asks questions and seeks out knowledge from varying Land professionals to truly learn the Land business. Also willing to provide feedback and input to team members, as well as receive feedback.

  • Negotiation ability: Use appropriate interpersonal skills and communication methods to establish effective relationships with third parties, such as various government agencies, landowners, and partner companies' land professionals to obtain leases and other agreements from these third parties.

  • Planning and organizing: Establish courses of action for self and others to ensure that work is completed efficiently.

  • Teamwork: Operate in a team environment and participate in cross-functional teams to solve business problems.

  • Contract interpretation/drafting/problem solving: Review contracts submitted by third parties and identify what is acceptable or unacceptable to Chevron. Draft contracts to effectively accomplish business objectives that are acceptable to third parties. Review complicated title opinions and chain of title documents and determine required actions.

  • Ability to demonstrate The Chevron Way.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated range for this position is $31.75 - $48.00 hourly. The selected candidate's monthly or hourly compensation will be determined based on their selected role, degree level and academic year.

As an intern, you will receive the following benefits:

  • Furnished housing.

  • Participation in Employee Savings Investment Plan with immediate vesting in both employee and company contributions.

    • Chevron matching contributions:

      • 4% company match for a 1% employee contribution.

      • 8% company match for a 2% employee contribution.

  • Work schedules:

    • Flexible work schedules (5/40, 9/80, or 4/10), as determined by the work group and confirmed with the hiring manager.

  • Paid holidays depending on your work schedule.

  • Full year of service credit for each internship completion (must be re-employed within 365 days)
