Job description

Salary Range/Hourly Rate: Non-affiliated position starting at $65,000 annually
Start Date: July 20, 2026
Closing Date: June 7, 2026 - Candidates will be reviewed upon submission, with selection starting no sooner than five days following the posting.  The position will remain open until a suitable candidate has been found.
Work Week: 40 hours per week, 12 months, 260 days per year, 8 hours per day





This is a newly created position, offering the right candidate a unique opportunity to help shape the vision and direction of the role from the ground up. Anticipated work hours are 6:30 a.m. 2:30 p.m.; however, hours may vary based on operational needs.

Position Summary:
The Nutrition Services Culinary Coordinator leads scratch-cooking operations at Sunrise Park, the district's central kitchen hub, and plays a hands-on role in shaping what students and staff eat every day. Reporting to the Director of Nutrition Services, this position oversees cafeteria operations, supervises food service staff, and manages a staff dining program, while also taking the lead on recipe development and testing, translating professional culinary techniques into large-scale school nutrition menus. The Coordinator manages inventory, ordering, and multi-site food distribution, and ensures all operations meet Minnesota Department of Education and Department of Health standards. This is an ideal role for a culinary professional who is ready to bring creativity and craft to a community-focused kitchen with regular hours and meaningful impact.
Education and /or Experience:  
Associate's or technical degree in Culinary Arts, Nutrition, Hospitality Management, or a related field preferred; considerable experience in commercial food preparation required, including hands-on recipe development and testing. Prior experience as a lead cook, chef, or cook supervisor strongly preferred. Experience in catering, multi-site operations, or school nutrition is a plus. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Special Requirements:
Certified MN Food Protection Manager within three (3) months of hire.
School Nutrition Association Level 4 certification required within one (1) year of hire. 
Essential Functions: 










  • Develop and test recipes in collaboration with the menu planning team, translating scratch cooking concepts to large-scale production
  • Enter and maintain standardized recipes in nutrition software; assist with recipe standardization and nutrition analysis
  • Manage staff dining program, including daily specials, snacks, and coffee bar; oversee on-site vending and POS system
  • Supervise food service staff and oversee all cafeteria operations, including opening and closing procedures, sanitation, and equipment readiness
  • Prepare foods and perform hands-on production; support and guide student workers in food preparation, service, and cleanup
  • Manage special dietary needs and ensure meal compliance for all age groups; coordinate catering and special meal services
  • Maintain accurate records and compile reports per Minnesota Department of Education and Minnesota Department of Health guidelines
  • Order food and supplies from multiple vendors; receive, inspect, and verify deliveries
  • Coordinate distribution of food, supplies, and smallwares across district programs
  • Support summer nutrition programs and assist with staff training on recipes, food safety, and procedures
  • Work in conjunction with the on-site Meals on Wheels program
  • Provide customer service to students, staff, families, and visitors
