Job description

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Summer Day Camp Counselor to join our team!
The YMCA focuses on empowering people in all forms, by improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across our neighborhoods.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
As a Summer Day Camp Counselor, you will get to know a small group of campers and supervise them through a range of fun activities such as swimming, playing games, participating in sports, and learning arts and crafts all while keeping them engaged and safe.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, lead, and assist group activities, transitions, time fillers, and songs.
  • Complete group head counts.
  • Provide parent communication through parent communication cards.
  • Complete accident and incident reports when necessary.
  • Cleaning and sanitation protocols will be required of all staff.

Qualifications:
  • Six months or more of related experience (preferred).
  • Positive attitude and previous experience with children and diverse populations
  • Knowledge and skills in day camp program activities and related equipment set-up, and the ability to instruct participants in age-appropriate techniques.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
  • You are committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on the first day, and other online and in-person training as required

Wage: $17.13 to $17.25 per hour, (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)
Hours: Full-Time, Seasonal Camp
Location: Bremerton Family YMCA, Bremerton, WA

Day Camp Counselor Job Description
Position Summary
The Day Camp Counselor will directly supervise campers and assist with planning and implementing daily camp activities for a group of 7-10 campers, including small and large group activities designed to engage campers and create a fun and memorable experience. Provide a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan, lead and assist group activities, transitions, time fillers and songs.
• Assist Unit Leader and Activity Leaders in specialty camps.
• Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment.
• Complete group head counts
• Provide parent communication through parent communication cards
• Complete accident and incident reports
• Other duties as assigned.
