Job description

Job Objective:The Program Aide assists with operating the Corps'After School Program and Summer Day Camp Program.

Essential Functions:

Program Execution

  • Assist with planning, creating and implementing activities
  • Instruct and participate in program activities
  • Provide youth supervision
  • Maintain and administer program rules and policies
  • Plan, prepare and serve food and snack
  • Provide child transportation
  • Assist with child transportation as second person

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain parent/child relations on a professional level
  • Responsible for client sign in and maintain attendance records
  • May supervise volunteers

Facilities Responsibilities

  • Maintain building security
  • Provide general cleaning and maintain appearance of areas used by the program
  • Change bulletin boards monthly
  • Report any repairs, maintenance, safety or security needs promptly to supervisor
  • Inventory and maintain equipment

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:High School diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary training in teaching, childhood development, mentoring, recreation and/sports preferred

Experience:Prior experience working with children in a structured setting

Certifications/Licenses:In-service training will be required

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to relate to children and exhibit a positive leadership example
  • Ability to participate in the physical recreation activities
  • Ability to work independently and on a set schedule
  • Ability to perform duties reliable and timely
  • Ability to handle emergency situations in a calm and professional manner

Supervisory Responsibility:Supervise volunteers as directed

Physical Requirements:Include actively participating in activities with children, standing for long periods of time; walking, running, bending, reaching; lifting up to 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: None

Driving:Driving is required. This position requires a valid driver's license from the state in which the employee resides. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions:The work environment for this position includes a classroom, gymnasium and outdoor environment. Hours include before and after school time. Some full day hours will be required based on the Olathe School District calendar.
