Summer Meta Tech information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Summer Meta Tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Summer Meta Tech, you generally need a solid background in computer science, programming skills (often in languages like Python or Java), and a strong academic record in a related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, as well as experience with collaborative development tools and possibly cloud platforms, is typically expected. Problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for standing out in this role. These skills and qualities enable interns to contribute effectively to projects, adapt to a fast-paced tech environment, and maximize their learning experience during the program.

What types of projects do Summer Meta Tech interns typically work on, and how do these projects contribute to their overall learning experience?

Summer Meta Tech interns are often assigned to real-world projects that align closely with Meta's current technical initiatives, such as improving platform infrastructure, developing new features, or optimizing user experience. These projects are designed to be both challenging and educational, providing interns with the opportunity to collaborate with full-time engineers and cross-functional teams. Interns are encouraged to take ownership of meaningful tasks, attend regular team meetings, and present their results, which helps them develop both technical and professional skills. The experience not only enhances their understanding of large-scale tech environments but also helps them build a strong professional network within Meta.

What are Summer Meta Tech positions?

Summer Meta Tech positions typically refer to internship or temporary roles offered by Meta (formerly Facebook) during the summer months for students or early-career professionals interested in technology. These roles may include software engineering, data science, product management, and other tech-focused internships. Participants gain hands-on experience working on real projects, collaborate with experienced professionals, and often receive mentorship and networking opportunities. These programs are designed to help students develop their technical skills and understand how large tech companies operate.

Job description

What we are looking for:
We are looking for a Design Director to help shape the long-term player experience for an upcoming AAA, cross-platform competitive title, with a focus on Live Service and Meta systems.
This role requires a blend of high-level vision and hands-on design craft, driving both the "what" and the "how" of the game's overall player experience. While a core focus will be on Live Service and Meta, this role may contribute more broadly to the game's design direction as needs evolve.
You will partner closely with Product, Production, Creative, and cross-disciplinary teams to define and execute on an ambitious, evolving player experience. You will contribute directly to feature vision, design documentation, event frameworks, and seasonal content themes, while guiding teams to deliver high-quality experiences for players.
You will also help to assemble and lead a group of Designers in these efforts, and evolve the efforts of this team over time to meet the needs of the product.
Requirements
What we will do together:
  • Shape the design vision for key areas of the game, with a focus on Live Service systems and the broader player experience around retention, monetization, and seasonal content.
  • Contribute hands-on to feature designs, design documentation, and player-facing systems
  • Develop scalable frameworks for content, events, and systems that support long-term engagement
  • Partner closely with Product to align on features, goals, content, and operations
  • Collaborate with Creative, Product, and Franchise leads to shape the vision for seasons and their content
  • Work across Production, Engineering, Art, UX, and other disciplines to deliver high-quality features and content
  • Help establish processes and best practices for design development, iteration, and live operations
  • Support the growth and execution of a design team across systems, content, and other gameplay areas
  • Drive continuous iteration based on player data, feedback, and live performance

What you will bring:
  • Significant experience in game design, including work on live service systems, features, or player progression.
  • Experience working on live service games or evolving player-facing systems.
  • Proven ability to define and deliver feature visions, from concept through live operations.
  • Hands-on design expertise, with a willingness to contribute to design documentation and executional details
  • Strong collaboration skills, with experience working cross-functionally across Product, Engineering, Art, and Production, etc.
  • Experience designing and supporting content, events, or ongoing player experiences.
  • Strong understanding of player motivation, engagement loops, and retention principles.
  • Experience leading or mentoring designers, with a track record of improving team output and quality.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Passion for building high-quality player experiences.
