JOB TITLE: Adult Education Summer Intern
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, hourly employee.
WORK DAYS: Part-time; 24 days (excluding holidays).
STANDARD HOURS PER DAY: 7.5 hours.
WORK YEAR: The Adult Education Summer Intern position begins on or around June 1 and continues for approximately 12 weeks. The intern will work approximately 15 hours per week across two days per week.
SALARY SCHEDULE & BENEFITS: The Adult Education Summer Intern is paid $27 per hour and is not eligible for benefits.
REPORTS TO: The Adult Education Manager.
SUPERVISES: The Adult Education Summer Intern does not supervise any other employee and is evaluated by the Adult Education Manager.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under general supervision, the Adult Education Summer Intern performs program-based duties associated with supporting adult education programming, student services, instructional support, data collection, community outreach, and career pathway initiatives within the Adult and Continuing Education program. The Adult Education summer Intern functions in a support capacity while gaining experience in adult education, workforce development, and the public education systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with student intake, registration, and orientation processes.
- Supports program staff with organizing instructional materials and classroom resources.
- Assists with data entry, attendance tracking, and maintenance of records.
- Provides support during student orientations, testing sessions, or career events.
- Assists with communication and outreach efforts to students, partners, and the community.
- Supports career certification and workforce development initiatives, as assigned.
- Assists with preparing reports, presentations, and program documentation.
- Works collaboratively with program staff to support daily operations and special projects.
- Maintains professionalism and confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of assigned duties and projects.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Other duties as assigned by the Adult Education Manager.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education/Certification/Training: Current enrollment in or completion of an Associate or Bachelor's degree program.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Experience: Previous experience working with diverse populations, educational programs, or community organizations is preferred.
- Other: Ability to perform the essential functions and fulfill the physical/sensory/environmental requirements of the job (with or without reasonable accommodations) is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The duties and responsibilities of the Adult Education Summer Intern involve a combination of office work and working throughout the community. The position requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; occasionally bend, stoop, climb stairs/ladders, and navigate uneven surfaces. The role may occasionally require lifting, carrying, or moving materials and equipment up to 20 pounds. Efficient use of a computer and other office technology is essential to effectively accomplishing job responsibilities.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: The position requires the ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing; to read and interpret printed and electronic documents, plans, and safety information; and to hear and respond to routine and emergency communications in person, by phone, and via radio or other devices. Visual acuity is required and use a computer and other office equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Tasks are performed without significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature, and noise extremes.
