POSITION OVERVIEW
The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for assisting in the daily delivery of a wide variety of developmentally appropriate programs and activities. The individual in this role assists in the creation of a fun, engaging camp program by participating in all summer camp activities and ensuring that campers actively participate in camp programming.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the daily delivery of a wide variety of developmentally appropriate programs and activities.
  • Assist in the supervision and discipline of campers participating in programs and services within the designated program areas as well as throughout the camp/clubhouse as deemed appropriate.
  • Participate in collaborative programs, events, and field trips with staff from other clubhouse groups, staff from other BGCB clubhouses and community organizations as appropriate.
  • Assessing our impact is critical to our work. All staff is expected to participate in various evaluation efforts throughout each program year, including the annual member survey.
  • Secure and maintain materials, equipment and other resources belonging to the camp/program area(s). Maintain a safe and clean camp/program area.
  • Travel between sites and to activities as needed.
  • Other related duties as specified by Directors.

  • Teaching youth/teens the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle is a BGCB priority. As a result, all staff are expected to model healthy behavior while working with our members.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be or become CPR and First Aid certified.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend shifts, flexibility to work extended hours

Preferred
  • High School degree or GED
  • Experience working with children/youth
TRAVEL
  • Travel between sites and to activities as needed
START DATE
June 15, 2026 - summer seasonal position (desired start date yet position open until filled)
LOCATION
Chelsea, MA (Gerald and Darlene Jordan Boys & Girls Club)
SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary - $22-$27/hr - commensurate with experience; along with a great work environment
