Job description


This residency program opportunity allows for pharmacists to enhance their skill set in the community and specialty pharmacy setting. The primary residency practice site is a community-based specialty pharmacy in Louisville, Kentucky. The pharmacy team services patients with many disease states including oncology, transplant, chronic inflammatory diseases, HIV and HCV. The community pharmacists at this site work closely with providers, patients, and the community to provide optimal drug therapy for patients. Residents gain insights on management issues that can affect the implementation of patient care services in the community and specialty pharmacy settings.
The program is academically affiliated with Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The resident will complete a teaching certificate program and will assist in teaching opportunities and precepting experiences for the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The residency program graduates will be leaders in the pharmacy community and will have an active role in advancing community pharmacy practice. A graduate from this residency program would be viewed to possess equivalent experience and skills to seek a pharmacy manager position within a specialty pharmacy location or a traditional community pharmacy practice site.
Resident Activities:
-Provide personalized, comprehensive care to patients with complex conditions such as oncology, transplant, chronic inflammatory disease, hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS
-Assist in delivery of medication education to patients
-Perform medication therapy management
-Recommend and adminster vaccines
-Perform patient centered dispensing
-Participate in community service events
-Design, conduct, and present a practice based residency project at a professional conference
-Develop relationships skills needed in health system pharmacy and specialty pharmacy
-Educate providers and payers on community-based specialty services
-Development of collaborative programs to improve patient adherence and outcomes
-Evaluate the sustainability of new patient care programs
-Enhance existing patient care programs
-Complete a teaching certificate program
-Serve as preceptor and instructor to pharmacy students at the site and college of pharmacy
External Basic Qualifications
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
  • Ability to obtain pharmacist license within the state of residency within the licensure requirement deadline
  • Submission of residency application materials to Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS)
  • Individuals must participate in and adhere to the rules of the ASHP Resident Matching Program.
  • Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications
We will consider employment of qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
The current salary range for this position is $18.00 per hour - $31.00 per hour. The actual hourly salary within this range that you will be offered will depend on a variety of factors including geography, skills and abilities, education, experience and other relevant factors.
