ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF CHORAL STUDIES

The University of Mary in Bismarck, ND invites applications for a full-time position as Assistant Director of Choral Studies, beginning August 27, 2026.

The Assistant Director of Choral Studies plays a vital role in the University's nationally recognized choral programs, including the University's Chapel Choir (Cappella), and collaborates closely with the Director of Choral Studies in advancing the artistic, educational, and spiritual mission of the University through sacred music.

Responsibilities include assisting with rehearsals and performances, teaching and mentoring students, supporting the administration and promotion of choral activities, and contributing to the continued growth of the University's vocal arts. As the primary recruiter for the University's Chapel Choir (Cappella), the Assistant Director will cultivate relationships with prospective students, schools, churches, and communities and serve as an ambassador for the University's music programs. The position includes periodic travel for recruitment and performances.

All faculty are expected to demonstrate a willingness to support and advance the Christian, Catholic, and Benedictine mission and identity of the University of Mary (see www.umary.edu/about/mission/missionidentity.php ).

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in music
  • Demonstrated experience in choral conducting
  • Ability to contribute to the artistic, educational, and spiritual mission of the University of Mary, with a strong devotion to sacred music
  • Upholds andsupports the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
  • Supports the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities
  • Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality inthe School of Arts & Sciences and throughout the university, in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience at the secondary or collegiate level
  • Master's degree or higher in choral conducting, sacred music, vocal performance, music education, or a related field
