Job Description
The Senior Study Abroad Advisor (SSAA) plays a vital role in advancing UTC's global engagement efforts by advising students on a wide range of study abroad opportunities and supporting institutional goals to increase participation in international education. This position provides comprehensive advising across all study abroad portfolios, supports incoming and outgoing exchange students, and delivers engaging programming for recruitment, pre-departure preparation, and re-entry support. The SSAA also collaborates with faculty on program development, contributes to international travel risk management, and promotes intercultural learning and global competency development across campus.
Responsibilities
Student Advising & Program Development
  • Advise students on study abroad program options, locations, timelines, and application requirements
  • Guide students on internal and external scholarship opportunities (e.g., Gilman, Boren, Freeman Asia)
  • Track student progress and follow up through the Via application system
  • Collaborate with faculty to design, develop, and coordinate faculty-led study abroad programs
  • Support institutional initiatives to increase study abroad participation

Outreach, Recruitment & Programming
  • Organize, market, and present study abroad programming across campus
  • Deliver presentations at pre-departure orientations, classes, and student group meetings
  • Host study abroad workshops and events each semester, including the annual Study Abroad Fair
  • Advise and support incoming and outgoing exchange students
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives aligned with UTC Vision 2030

Operations, Risk Management & Student Support
  • Coordinate course approval and transcript processing for returning study abroad students
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with international exchange partners
  • Support international travel risk management, including Crisis24 enrollment and student tracking
  • Promote engagement of returned students through sessions and volunteer opportunities
  • Oversee the Global Student Ambassadors Program

Other Duties
  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of study abroad programs, exchange models, and international education practices
  • Knowledge of student records systems, with preferred knowledge of Banner and Via software
  • Skill in advising and supporting undergraduate and graduate students from various backgrounds
  • Skill in public speaking, group facilitation, and delivering engaging presentations
  • Skill in digital engagement, including website content management and social media outreach
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with academic departments and student services offices
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to organize work, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines independently
  • Ability to use technology effectively in advising, presentations, and program administration

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three (3) years of experience working in a study abroad office advising university students

Preferred:
  • Prior experience studying, working, or living abroad
  • Experience using Via study abroad management software
  • Demonstrated student advising skills in higher education

Compensation and Benefits:
  • UT Market Range: MR07
  • Anticipated hiring salary: $47,250 - 50,000
