Job description

Job Title:  Engineering Manager - Tampa Radio

Position Overview

Tampa Radio is looking for a Manager of Engineering who will be responsible for executing all broadcast related engineering functions for Cox Media Group (CMG) radio stations in the local market. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, all radio frequency (RF) operations, broadcast and digital distribution systems, studio equipment, tower site operations, IP-based broadcast infrastructure, cybersecurity practices, backup and recovery, and security systems. Planning, execution, and timely completion of all projects, maintenance, upgrades, lifecycle replacements, infrastructure improvements, and modernization initiatives while ensuring compliance with all FCC, FAA, FEMA, OSHA, and company rules, regulations, and guidelines. Maintain, maximize, and service the station's transmitter, studio, digital distribution, networking, and station facilities. Advise management in the long-range planning for the replacement, modernization, resilience, and secure operation of station equipment and systems. The Manager of Engineering is responsible for improving operational capabilities and supporting all revenue and audience-producing efforts. They will work closely with Engineering, IT, programming, content, sales, operations, and other departments in the maintenance and operation of their equipment and technical systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and support all broadcast equipment including transmission systems, transceivers, satellite receivers, and broadcast automation equipment for optimum performance 
  • Mange remote, on-location broadcast scheduling, site coordination, timely broadcast equipment setup and operation.  Safely store and maintain remote broadcast equipment 
  • Document equipment installation, wiring, maintenance, repair, and replacement 
  • Ensure that all projects are properly implemented and executed per agreed-upon schedule 
  • Work varied and extended hours may include some weekends, holidays, on-call, and required local travel for scheduled after-hours projects or when emergencies or failure of critical equipment occurs to the operation of the station 
  • Respond to equipment outages, malfunctions, and related technical problems at studio, transmitter, and translator locations 
  • Ensure operation and oversee maintenance of company vehicles with the safety of the operator, other personnel, and the public in mind, according to the guidelines of the station and CMG 
  • Update, improve and implement our business continuity plan and contribute as a member of our crisis management team 
  • Support IP-based broadcast infrastructure, including switching, routing, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, wireless systems, AoIP platforms, remote control systems, and monitoring tools
  • Support cybersecurity, patching, endpoint protection, access control, secure configuration, backup and recovery, and vulnerability remediation practices across critical technical systems
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance, technology upgrades, lifecycle replacements, infrastructure improvements, and modernization projects that strengthen reliability, security, scalability, and operational resilience
  • Partner with Engineering, IT, programming, content, sales, and operations teams to understand business needs, solve technical problems, and deliver dependable service-oriented support
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in broadcast engineering, radio technical operations, media technology, IT infrastructure, or a related technical field.
  • Strong knowledge of broadcast systems, RF transmission, studio operations, automation, audio chains, remote control systems, and digital distribution workflows.
  • Hands-on experience supporting IP-connected infrastructure, including switches, routers, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, DNS, NTP, SNMP, and wireless systems.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals, patching, endpoint protection, backup and recovery, and secure system configuration.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues quickly, especially during outages or time-sensitive station operations.
  • Strong communication, documentation, project management, prioritization, and follow-through skills.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to support station facilities, transmitter sites, and remote locations as needed.
  • Ability to work varied hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call support when critical systems require immediate response.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Electronics, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Society of Broadcast Engineers certification or relevant IT, networking, cybersecurity, cloud, or vendor certifications.
  • Experience with radio automation, AoIP systems, HD Radio, high-powered AM/FM transmission, broadcast monitoring/control platforms, or remote broadcast technology.
  • Familiarity with virtualized or cloud-connected infrastructure, Windows Server, Active Directory/Azure, Linux, backup platforms, Fortinet, Cisco, Veeam, Wheatstone, WideOrbit, Burk, or comparable platforms.
