As a Software Engineer Lead within PNC's Retail Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA or Dallas, TX.
Role Overview
The Software Engineer Lead role in the Retail Studio will be responsible for designing, building, and scaling capabilities supporting the Production Validation Environment (PVE) for Retail Banking. This role enables safe, synthetic-data-driven validation of production scenarios across Branch, Care Center, and future digital channels.
This position operates within a fast-paced, startup-like engineering environment, focused on rapid delivery, high-quality engineering practices, and cross-functional collaboration with business, risk, and operations teams.
Core Responsibilities
Platform & Solution Engineering
Design and build scalable services and applications supporting the Retail Studio / PVE platform
Develop solutions that enable synthetic data modeling, validation workflows, and production scenario simulation
Contribute to API-first architecture and reusable service frameworks (aligned with evolving API leadership roles)
Retail & Banking Domain Execution
Delivery capabilities aligned to branch, care center (CCCC), and retail customer use cases
Translate business validation needs into technical solutions supporting production readiness
Support expansion into more complex account structures and customer relationships over time Agile Delivery & Rapid Execution
Participating in Agile/Kanban workflows tied to Retail Studio backlog and roadmap
Deliver iterative releases aligned to tight timelines and critical path milestones
Partner closely with engineering, product, and contract teams during build-out phases
Engineering Excellence & DevOps
Drive CI/CD, automated testing, and production-quality engineering practices
Support release management, validation governance, and control frameworks for PVE
Contribute to observability, resiliency, and scalable system design
Team & Leadership Influence
Act as a senior technical contributor and mentor for junior engineers
Influence team structure and engineering practices during Retail Studio build-out
Participate in hiring, interviewing, and shaping future team capabilities
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in software engineering (aligned with Sr leveling expectations)
Strong experience in:
oJava / .NET / modern backend frameworks
oAPI development and microservices architectures
oCloud platforms (Azure preferred within PNC ecosystem)
Experience with:
oCI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling
oAutomated testing frameworks and validation strategies
Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional environments with business and risk partners
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in financial services / retail banking systems
Knowledge of:
oSynthetic data generation or test data management
oProduction validation or pre-production environments
Experience working in startup-style or innovation labs / rapid engineering teams
