Position Overview
Austin PBS is seeking a hands-on Audio Intern to support the production of studio and field-based programming, working directly with the Lead Audio Engineer and Production Coordinator. This internship provides an immersive experience in live audio production, mixing for broadcast, and post-production workflows.
Interns will have opportunities to assist on Austin PBS shows, studio events, and field shoots, helping to set up, record, and mix audio for a variety of content. This position is ideal for students interested in broadcast production, live sound, music recording, and multimedia storytelling.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Assist audio staff with pre-production, studio, field, and post-production tasks
  • Help prepare input lists, stage plots, microphones, and gear for studio and field shoots
  • Observe or assist with mixing audio for live audiences (Front of House), band monitors, and final recording mixes
  • Participate in sweetening, file delivery, and other post-production processes
  • Attend assigned studio and field productions as available
  • Collaborate with producers, engineers, and crew to support high-quality audio for Austin PBS programming
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned, based on production needs

Requirements:
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Current undergraduate student, must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program during the full duration of the internship
  • Must be available in-person for a minimum of 14 weeks
  • Internship is in-person; availability preferred daily (15–20 hours per week)
  • Strong interest in broadcast and internet media, live events, and/or music production
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace and general computer proficiency
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or on a team
  • Familiarity with Austin PBS programming is a plus

Physical Demands
Work will primarily take place in studio and office settings. Occasional travel to off-site productions may be required. Some lifting of production equipment may be necessary.
