Job Summary :
The AV Intern is responsible for assisting the University Catholic Center in preparing for and monitoring all audiovisual needs for events that require live recording or streaming. The AV Intern reports to the Director of Evangelizations and Communications and operates with some latitude and discretion, requiring the use of independent judgment and initiative. The position is for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Ministerial Character:
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of University Catholic Center which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ's mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Positions employed at University Catholic Center help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Job Duties:
  • As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of University Catholic Center in both your professional and personal life.
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
  • Assist with setting up microphones, projectors, monitors, and cables for events with talks/speakers in the Holy Spirit Chapel, John Paul Hall, or other rooms as needed.
  • Assist with livestreaming/recording events in the Holy Spirit Chapel as needed.
  • Assist with monitoring lights and audiovisual equipment for events as needed.
  • Assist with posting recorded talks/events onto YouTube and other relevant social media.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Knowledge of music equipment including mixers, microphones, cables, and speakers.
  • Knowledge of livestreaming/lighting technology.
  • General knowledge of video editing and editing software.
  • General knowledge of social media and uploading footage.
  • General knowledge of vocal EQ and mixing live sound.
  • Skill in managing details.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all University Catholic Center organizations.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques.
  • Ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow instructions in verbal or written format.
  • Ability to effectively use standard office communication technology.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Trainings:
  • High School Diploma or GED acceptable to Texas Education Agency.
  • Current student at UT Austin for the 2026-2027 calendar year

Experience:
  • Live audiovisual work for events (e.g. equipment setup, mixing, and monitoring sound)
  • Social media posting and uploading of videos/content

Language:
  • English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)

Catholic Requirement:
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.

Licenses/Certifications:
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

Working Conditions:
  • Schedule flexibility: it is expected that this position will average 5-6 events per semester, depending on the UCC's needs
  • Working on weekends and evenings may be required.
  • Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic prayer and liturgical celebrations.
  • All employees of the University Catholic Center are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Chaplain in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the Church.
  • The UCC is an at-will employer.
  • All buildings and vehicles owned by the UCC are tobacco-free.
  • Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
