Lead / Senior AV Technician (Level 2/3)


Department: Operations – Audio Visual

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Project Manager

Location: Office & Field Sites


Primary Purpose and Function

AK Technologies is seeking an experienced Lead / Senior AV Technician with advanced knowledge of commercial audio visual systems. This position is responsible for high-level installation, DSP programming, control system configuration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field leadership on commercial AV projects.

The ideal candidate will be capable of independently programming, commissioning, and leading medium-to-large AV installations while mentoring junior technicians and maintaining AK Technologies' quality standards. Candidates with strong Level 2 experience who demonstrate the ability to grow into a Level 3 leadership role are encouraged to apply.


Field Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead installation crews on assigned commercial AV projects.
  • Independently manage small projects or lead portions of larger projects.
  • Supervise and mentor Level 1 and junior Level 2 technicians.
  • Coordinate daily work with Project Managers, General Contractors, and other trades.
  • Monitor labor production against estimated hours and proactively communicate schedule impacts.
  • Identify and document change order opportunities.
  • Ensure project documentation, daily reports, punch lists, commissioning reports, and safety documentation are completed accurately.
  • Perform on-site quality control inspections throughout installation.
  • Maintain a safe work environment while enforcing company safety standards.
  • Represent AK Technologies professionally with customers and project stakeholders.
  • Manages assigned work within approved labor hours and margin tolerances; tracks weekly costs and flags slip early.
  • Assists the Project Manager in monitoring and maintaining project budgets and schedules.
  • Serves as on-site safety champion; ensures JPRs, incident reports, and safety documentation are completed and submitted.

Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • Level 2 Candidate: 3–5 years of commercial AV installation experience with the ability to independently complete projects.
  • Level 3 Candidate: 5+ years of commercial AV installation experience with demonstrated leadership, programming, and commissioning experience.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Commercial audio systems
  • Video distribution

  • Structured cabling
  • AV-over-IP technologies
  • Working knowledge of commercial networking concepts including TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE, and managed switches.
  • Experience with one or more of the following platforms:

  • Biamp Tesira
  • Crestron
  • Extron
  • Shure
  • Logitech
  • Cisco
  • Poly
  • Ability to read construction documents and technical specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and customer communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, operate lifts, and work safely on active construction sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AVIXA CTS or CTS-I Certification
  • QSC Q-SYS Level 1 or Level 2
  • Biamp Tesira Certification
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • CPR / First Aid Certification
  • Lift Certification
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, and enterprise conferencing solutions


Please Note: This role is centered on commercial AV systems integration. Candidates whose experience is primarily in live sound, stage production, theater, concerts, or entertainment venues may not possess the required commercial installation and commissioning background for this position.
