Dean of Students – New York State
Position SummaryThe Dean of Students provides leadership and oversight of student programs, behavior management, and school culture initiatives. The Dean works closely with administrators, teachers, students, and families to ensure a safe, inclusive, and academically focused learning environment. This role is critical in supporting student success, addressing behavioral concerns, and promoting a positive school climate.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOversee student behavior management, attendance, and discipline in accordance with school and district policies.
Support the implementation of restorative practices, conflict resolution, and intervention strategies.
Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to address academic and behavioral needs of students.
Serve as a liaison between students, families, and school staff to ensure effective communication and support.
Monitor student attendance and implement strategies to improve engagement and reduce chronic absenteeism.
Develop and lead programs that promote student leadership, social-emotional growth, and a positive school culture.
Participate in administrative meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.
Maintain accurate records related to student discipline, attendance, and interventions.
Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to students and staff regarding policies, procedures, and best practices.
QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Education, Administration, or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.
NYS School Administrator Certification preferred.
Experience in student services, behavior management, or educational leadership.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, staff, and community members.
CompensationSalary Range: $50,000 – $75,000 depending on experience, education, and certifications.
Preferred QualificationsNYS Administrator or Dean certification.
Experience implementing restorative practices, conflict resolution, or social-emotional programs.
Knowledge of federal, state, and district policies regarding student rights and responsibilities.
Experience supervising staff or managing student support programs.
Working ConditionsSchool environment with frequent interaction with students, staff, and families.
Occasional after-school, evening, or weekend events.
May involve responding to behavioral or crisis situations.
