Community Council has a long history of providing mental health services to Philadelphia residents and is one of the City of Philadelphia's original 12 Base Service Units. We provide a range of mental health and substance abuse direct services and case management. The organization has a diverse staff of 200 that deliver evidenced based services in a culturally competent manner.

GENERAL OVERVIEW OF KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL & CORE FUNCTIONS:
A teaching assistant's primary role is to support the course instructor to ensure the effective delivery of the required materials and to foster a positive learning environment for students. Teacher Assistants are responsible for helping Teachers complete daily tasks within a classroom environment. Their duties include leading lessons or small group activities for students.
  1. Support the teacher to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment.
  1. Assist the teacher in planning and preparation for daily activities; aids instructional efforts of the teacher.
  1. Assist the teacher in preparing lesson outlines, plans, and curricula in assigned areas.
  1. Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids for use in classroom, including activity sheets, drawings, and similar handouts.
  1. Present subject matter to children under the guidance of a teacher, utilizing a variety of methods, including stories, discussions, and role-playing.
  1. Lead classroom activities; may confer with parents on children's progress in the absence of the teacher.
  1. Assist children, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  1. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
