General Information

Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing support for principals and programs with the enrollment of students. Extensive contact with parents of student applicants, prospective students and community representatives will be required. This position has a preferred qualification for a candidate with the ability to speak Somali.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Director, Student Placement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or two years of college coursework and two years of experience providing administrative support for an educational or social service program, in a customer service department or a related work environment

Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

  • Develop an understanding of district policies on integration and school choice and coordinate implementation of those policies during the application process and placement of students at the Student Placement Center.

  • Use Enrollment Management System to monitor enrollment of schools and programs and use that information to determine availability of space for new enrollees in the district. Support the processing of school choice applications and the development and maintenance of waiting lists.Serve as the Student Placement Centers initial contact on issues related to school choice, including developing an understanding of the choice process, handling of applications and development of waiting lists through work with parents, schools and district administration, as well as, members of the community.Assist with analyzing student data records and other information gathered from district and school staff, students, parents and/or community members; assist in the development of a clear process and procedures regarding school choice.Provide information about school choice and the student placement process through interaction with school staff, community members and through information meetings to promote applications and school choice process.

  • Develop reports relating to school choice and related areas; generate reports from computer databases and spreadsheets.Work cooperatively with staff of other departments within the Student Placement Center to accomplish the goals and objectives of the department.Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure student success and satisfaction.Meet with prospective students and families to accurately explain program offerings; discuss and advise suitable programs in accordance with the student¿s interests and enrollment optionsProvide excellent customer service through professional, consistent and effective outreach and engagement.Represent the District to prospective students, parents and other individuals or organizations involved in the school choice process.Keep all required reports current and accurate, including information stored in the student information data based systems -Assist in the planning and implementation of events and programs for groups and individuals.Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong commitment to the use of school choice as a viable means of achieving desegregation integration among students.

  • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent customer service skills; to include the ability to effectively follow up and follow through

  • Ability to work cooperatively with parents and district and school personnel.

  • Ability to work with people from a wide range of cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds

  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and to meet deadlines

  • Ability to utilize computer software in generating reports and maintaining records.

  • Must be able to accommodate flexible scheduling for occasional evening or weekend work assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a field related to education, human relations, social work, communications or a related field.

  • Experience working in a school or other educational environment.

  • Bilingual communication skills.

  • Fluent in Somali

Pay, Benefits, and Work Schedule

This is a 12-month position working 40 hours per week.

Pay range for this position is: $55,836 - $89,150 Maximum hiring step = step twelve (12)
