Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The Shuttle Driver provides safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for students, faculty, staff, and visitors while maintaining a secure and professional campus environment. This position plays a vital role in promoting the safety and security of the college community by monitoring campus activity, supporting emergency response operations, and serving as a visible representative of the college's commitment to service and respect.
The Shuttle Driver ensures compliance with institutional, local, and state regulations, upholds the image of the department, and contributes to a welcoming environment that supports the college's mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
  • Operate college vehicles to safely transport passengers between campus locations and designated areas.
  • Maintain order and ensure the safety and security of passengers while in transit.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safe operating conditions; report maintenance or safety issues promptly.
  • Support campus security efforts by monitoring activity, observing and reporting incidents, and responding appropriately to routine and emergency situations.
  • Provide courteous assistance and information to students, employees, and visitors.
  • Enforce parking, traffic, and safety regulations in accordance with college policy.
  • Assist with special events, traffic control, and emergency evacuations as directed.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate trip logs, incident reports, and other documentation as required.
  • Promote positive public relations and uphold the professional image of the department and college.

In addition to core responsibilities, this role requires performing security officer duties.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Ability to accurately complete trip logs, incident reports, and follow campus traffic, parking, and safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability in completing assigned tasks, and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Considerable knowledge of safety and security concepts, principles, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions, communicate effectively with a diverse population, and maintain composure in routine and emergency situations.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to represent the college professionally.

Additional Considerations
  • Security or transportation experience in a public service or educational environment.
  • Experience operating security vehicles, communication equipment, and alarm systems.
  • Basic computer skills for completing reports and using security or scheduling systems.
  • Familiarity with college or multi-site campus environments.
