The Provo City Library is looking for a part-time custodian to provide general labor and semi-skilled maintenance work in the cleaning and upkeep of its facilities. Qualified, civic-minded individuals interested in supporting the services provided to Provo residents by performing the duties described herein are strongly encouraged to apply.

What is the compensation?

Starting at $13.00 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.

Part-time Provo City employees are eligible to contribute to individual retirement savings plans through the City (401k, 457, Roth IRA, and/or Traditional IRA) and receive the following perks: a) free admission to the Provo Recreation Center, Peaks Ice Arena Public Skating, and Provo Shooting Sports Park; b) a free Provo City Library Card; c) a 25% discount on Provo Recreation Center memberships (direct family only); and d) discounts from various local and national vendors.

What will I do?

  • Clean and maintain the facility, building interior, and offices.

  • Sweep, mop, and clean floors.

  • Clean and wash glass, woodwork, and windows.

  • Dust and clean furniture, maintenance equipment, shelves, and other furnishings.

  • Change light bulbs.

  • Responsible for daily cleaning of restrooms, event rooms, and other storage areas.

  • May be required to perform other related work as required.


What requirements do I need to apply?

  • Any training or experience which would demonstrate an ability to perform the work.

  • Must be at least 18 years old to apply.

  • Previous custodial work is desirable.


What are the hours?

Approximately 20 hours per week, 4:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., Monday through Saturday (with one day off to be determined with supervisor).
What are the physical and environmental factors?

Work requires manual and physical labor, bending, climbing ladders, medium to heavy lifting, and periodic exposure to adverse weather conditions, caustic chemicals and cleaners, and other varied physical activities associated with performing the essential duties of the job.

What is the selection process?

This is an open file posting. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted for any positions available at that time. They will remain on file for a minimum of 60 days. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
