Position summary
Patron Services student assistants, under the direction of the Circulation Services Supervisor, work to support library patrons in accessing library services and materials.
Qualifications summary
  • Previous library or clerical experience.
  • Be a sophomore, upperclass, or graduate student.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and other application software. Willingness to learn other specialized software
  • Available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week during library hours (Sunday - Friday, nights, weekends, days, select holidays, etc.).

Duties and responsibilities
  • Check out/in of circulating materials, including course reserves, MeLCat, and ILL materials;
  • Register new patrons;
  • Assist patrons in searching FOLIO;
  • Direct patrons to where library materials are located;
  • Accept and discharge lost and found items;
  • Collect library materials from book drops;
  • Pick up in-house used materials;
  • Sort and shelve library materials accordingly;
  • Tidy up shelves, shelf-read, and assist with book shifting as needed;
  • Answer patrons' inquiries and direct them to the appropriate department or staff;
  • Answer the telephone, and transfer calls;
  • Assist in opening and closing the library; and
  • Any other duties assigned to them by the supervisor - for example, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning the glass doors, and watering the plants as needed.
