Position Summary:
The Fitness and Athletics Center (FAC) Front Desk Attendant plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of Sweet Briar College's fitness and recreation facility. This student-facing position requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to promoting a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and guests. As the first point of contact at the FAC, the Front Desk Attendant is responsible for access control, membership management, light facility maintenance, and communication with visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Shift Coverage:
    Report on time to all scheduled and substitute shifts, maintaining professional behavior and attire throughout.
  • Customer Service & Communication:
    Greet all patrons with a friendly, service-oriented attitude. Respond to phone calls, emails, and in-person inquiries regarding facility policies, hours, and services.
  • Facility Access Control:
    Ensure all patrons scan or sign in upon entry. Verify active membership status and provide orientation for new users. Enforce Sweet Briar College's fitness center policies and procedures.
  • Membership Management:
    Assist with new member registration: verify identification, collect payments, complete paperwork, and enter data into the RhinoFIT software system. Update attendance logs and monitor membership records.
  • Daily Maintenance Duties:
    Clean and sanitize fitness equipment regularly. Wash, dry, and fold towels to maintain appropriate stock levels in the Cardio/Weight Room.
  • Security & Safety Monitoring:
    Observe facility cameras and report any concerning activity. Lock and unlock designated areas of the FAC according to daily open/close procedures. Respond to incidents and complete incident reports when necessary.

Required Qualifications:
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain with guidance from the College).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and responsible work ethic.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment when handling sensitive issues.
  • Comfort with using or learning facility management software (e.g., RhinoFIT).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous customer service, recreation, or gym experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Sweet Briar College's campus and student life resources.

Work Schedule:
This is a part-time position. Shifts vary based on FAC hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate academic commitments.
