Student Case Manager information

What are student case managers?

Student case managers are professionals who support students by coordinating resources and services to address academic, social, emotional, or behavioral challenges. They work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and other support staff to develop action plans and monitor progress. Their goal is to help students overcome barriers to success and ensure they have access to the support they need throughout their educational journey.

What are the most common challenges faced by Student Case Managers, and how do they typically address them?

Student Case Managers often encounter challenges such as balancing high caseloads, navigating complex student needs, and coordinating with multiple campus departments. To manage these, they prioritize effective time management, maintain organized documentation, and foster strong communication with faculty, counseling services, and external agencies. Building rapport and trust with students is also essential, as it encourages open dialogue and more successful interventions. Many institutions provide ongoing training and support to help case managers develop the skills needed to handle these challenges effectively.

Job description

Description

Foster Care Case Manager Supervisor

Gaylord, Michigan | Serving Otsego and Alpena Counties

Full-Time | Salaried

There comes a point in many child welfare careers when the question shifts from "How many lives can I impact myself?" to "How many people can I help become exceptional at this work?"

If you've reached that point, Wellspring Lutheran Services invites you to lead, mentor, and inspire a team dedicated to supporting children and families across Northern Michigan.

This is an opportunity to take the experience you've built in child welfare and multiply its impact. As a Foster Care Case Manager Supervisor, you'll help shape the professionals who walk alongside children through some of the most difficult and important moments of their lives. You'll foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and compassion while ensuring families receive the high-quality support they deserve.

Most importantly, you'll help create an environment where both staff and families can thrive.

Lead the Mission

At Wellspring, leadership is more than managing workloads or overseeing processes. It's about creating a team culture where people feel supported, challenged, and empowered to do meaningful work. It's about helping case managers navigate complex situations, grow in their careers, and remain connected to the purpose that brought them into this field in the first place.

You'll serve as a trusted coach, mentor and resource for your team, while helping ensure every child and family receives services that promote safety, stability and permanency.

How You'll Make an Impact

Develop and inspire a high-performing team. Great outcomes for children begin with supported, engaged professionals. You'll provide supervision, mentorship, and ongoing guidance to foster care case managers, support staff, and student interns. Through coaching, professional development, and consistent support, you'll help team members build confidence, strengthen their skills, and grow in their careers while fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture.

Ensure quality care and meaningful outcomes. You'll help maintain the high standards that children and families deserve. By overseeing case activity, conducting reviews, monitoring documentation, and ensuring compliance with licensing, accreditation and contractual requirements, you'll help create a strong foundation for effective services and positive outcomes across the program.

Guide program operations and growth. Strong programs don't happen by accident. You'll help coordinate referrals, manage case assignments, monitor reporting requirements, and support day-to-day program operations. You'll also play an important role in recruiting, onboarding, and retaining talented professionals who share Wellspring's commitment to serving children and families.

Support families when needed most. While your primary focus is leadership, you'll remain connected to the heart of the work. Depending on program needs and contract requirements, you may provide direct services to children and families, offering guidance and support while staying grounded in the realities your team experiences every day.
