Job Summary:

This position reports to the Director, Student Support, Rights and Responsibilities and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Office of Student Support, Rights and Responsibilities (SSRR). The Student Case Coordinator works with students, faculty, and staff to confidentially address a range of student behavioural concerns. Including both academic and non-academic behaviour.
The Student Case Coordinator is responsible for case consultation with relevant faculty staff and administrators, receiving and assessing reports, coordinating appropriate responses, coordinating support to students, and all aspects of student case management.
The Student Case Coordinator acts under college policies to undertake investigations into possible policy violations, renders decisions and formal recommendations, and imposes remedies related to found violations. Additional responsibilities include the design and delivery of educational and training opportunities to the College Community; project planning and implementation as it pertains to the Office's strategic direction; maintenance of the departmental data base, and the and ongoing development of processes and procedures within the Office.
The Student Case Coordinator is required to maintain currency in best practices associated with student behaviour management in a post-secondary environment and work with a high volume of information and materials that are of a confidential and/or sensitive nature within a high stress, time pressured environment.

Job Description:

C. Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Provides Case Management:

• Reviews and triages incoming reports to the SSRR Office.
• Manages all incoming academic integrity reports; provides guidance to faculty on case specific academic integrity issues.
• Works in co-operation with other College administrators as required to conduct sensitive assessments and generate student files
• Manages and supports the early intervention and resolution of student behaviour issues, student-to-students complaints, and interpersonal disputes between students.
• Provides confidential consultation and coaching to staff, faculty, and administration in the management of student behavioural issues; assist with the development of strategies to address complex behaviour issues.
• Negotiates non-disability related student accommodation, facilitates student access to on and off campus support services; employs informal dispute resolution where appropriate.
• Provides care outreach for students exhibiting complex concerning behaviour or support needs; manages and coordinates cases in conjunction with members of the SSRR team and internal and external support services.
• Collaborates with relevant internal departments when a potential threat/risk of violence arises.
• Manages and supports student leaves and re-entry in consultation with the Director and others as required.

2. Undertakes investigations and adjudication:

• Ensure procedural fairness in the investigation and adjudication of complaints, in accordance with the tenets of natural justice.
• Conducts sensitive, trauma-informed investigation interviews with affected parties.
• Prepare investigation reports and decision letters.
• Develops behavioral contracts, terms for student continuance, and remedial and educational strategies to address academic and non-academic behaviour.
• Initiates and facilitates the resolution of student conflict and/or other matters pertaining to students.
• Where appropriate, employs informal resolution, mediation or restorative justice strategies when addressing student policy violations.
• Develops and administers suspension recommendations to the Office of the President when appropriate.

3. Provides education, training promotion:

• Develops and delivers customized awareness courses, workshops and presentations to students and employees on academic and non-academic student issues.
• Participates in College led events such as but not limited to orientations for students and new employees.
• Advises and counsels students and employees about their rights and responsibilities related to procedural fairness, human rights, academic integrity, sexualized violence, student code of conduct, student support and college-mandated leave of absence considerations.
• Maintains and updates social media platforms and department websites to promote campaigns, events, workshops, and College policies and procedures.
• Develops and manages campaigns to promote SSRR services, procedures, and College policies to the College community.
• Manages and/or participates in College committees and projects, as well as provincial and federal committees or associations, as required to contribute to the development and redevelopment of various College policies beyond Student Conduct, Sexualized Violence & Academic Integrity

4. Enhancement of Services:

• Creates and maintains high standards for service and program delivery.
• Builds partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure tactful and effective implementation of student support plans and preventative resourcing.
• Assists with the creation of annual reports to communicate SSRR roles and responsibilities, as well as to summarize the completed and upcoming work of the SSRR Office.
• Acts as a resource and a role model in strengthening the capacity of all College employees to respond quickly and effectively to students in the early stages of disruptive behaviour, conduct issues and crisis.
• Leads or co-leads the regular review and revision of non-academic student behaviour/conduct policy, the academic integrity policy, appeal procedures, and the gender-based/sexualized violence policy and procedures.
• Monitors trends and developments in student behaviour management; identifies best practices to recommend improved operational processes.

5. Acts as a resource to the College community:

• Acts as a resource to the College community on matters related to academic integrity, student conduct, appeals, and complaints resolution.
• Communicates information regarding resources and supports that address student behaviour and misconduct to faculty, staff, and administrators.
• Responds to questions regarding the College's student conduct policies and processes from students, parents, faculty, and staff.
• Participates as a member of the College's Student Support Team.
• Participates in College committees and projects as required to contribute to the development and redevelopment of various College policies beyond Student Conduct, Sexualized Violence and Academic Integrity.

6. File and Database Management:

• Maintains a current database using college data management system for all academic and non-academic behavioural related matters.
• Maintains all files related to student issues matters in keeping with the highest standards of legal and professional record keeping,
• Participates in the development and management of technological and process development, and management of technological solutions and services which impact departmental and campus-wide processes, activities, and information processing.
• Coordinates, plans, and supports the implementation, development, and maintenance of SSRR file management systems in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders.

E. Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years related experience in a post-secondary institution, preferably within a student services department.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills & Abilities:

• Formal training in one or more of conflict resolution, alternate dispute resolution, restorative justice, trauma informed interviewing, and violence/risk management is an asset.
• Thorough knowledge of administrative law principles
• Thorough knowledge of interviewing and fact-finding techniques.
• Thorough knowledge of report writing and presenting.
• Thorough knowledge of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles and practices.
• Experience supporting individuals from diverse populations and from equity-seeking groups.
• Experience developing and implementing training, promotional strategies, policies, and procedures.
• Experience working knowledge of the BC College and Institute Act, The BC Human Rights Code, Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations,
• Proficient in the use of computer applications
• Experience with project planning, event organizing.
• Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
• Working knowledge of threat/risk assessment procedures.
• Familiarity with sexualized violence and misconduct response processes in a post-secondary environment.

Compensation beyond the mid-point requires approval by the Public Sector Employers' Council Secretariat (PSEC).
