Description
MaineHealth Maine Medical Center's Division of Cardiac Surgery is seeking a full-time, academic, preferably experienced cardiac surgeon who ideally has an interest in minimally invasive and/or robotically assisted mitral valve repair surgery.
The Cardiac Surgery Program at Maine Medical Center is a well-established program with an annual volume of 1,500 cases. The case volume includes coronary revascularization, complex and minimally invasive valve surgery, congenital heart surgery, traditional and convergent MAZE procedures, open and endovascular thoracic aortic vascular procedures, and placement of ventricular assist devices (VADs). In addition, there is an active and growing Valve Clinic performing transcatheter aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve procedures as well as an aggressive ECMO program.
This position offers:
  • Selected candidate will join 6 adult cardiac surgeons, and 1 congenital cardiac surgeon.
  • A brand new, state of the art Cardiovascular Tower at Maine Medical Center.
  • Academic appointment and direct teaching role and mentoring surgical residents and medical students from the Maine Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program
  • The program participates fully in the Northern New England Cardiovascular Disease Study Group as well as the STS database.
  • The MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR) ( https://mhir.org ) offers a wealth of academic opportunities for interested candidates. The successful candidate will have an interest in clinical or basic research to further our academic mission.

Qualifications:
  • MD/DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Board Certification/Board Eligible by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery
  • Well-trained cardiothoracic surgeon who would like to practice with a well-respected and collegial group of highly skilled colleagues.
  • Candidates with minimally invasive and/or robotically assisted mitral valve repair expertise preferred.
