Company Overview
Sunrock Distributed Generation is a developer, operator, and financier of solar assets deployed on the properties of businesses, municipalities, and nonprofits across the USA. Leveraging an unmatched network of trusted partners and installers, tech-enabled operational efficiency, and a proprietary underwriting method, we design solar and distributed generation solutions tailored to the needs of organizations previously unable to access the benefits of solar energy. We offer Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) with zero upfront investment, positioning us as the trusted platform for commercial solar DG projects.
Role Description
Sunrock is seeking a Structured Finance Associate to support the end-to-end execution of M&A transactions, project investments, financings, and portfolio reporting across a rapidly growing distributed generation platform. In this role, the Associate will develop and quality assure financial models, coordinate due diligence workstreams, manage transaction data rooms, and support the ongoing administration of tax equity and sponsor equity financing facilities. This is a highly analytical, detail-oriented position with direct exposure to deal transactions.
Responsibilities
  • Support the execution of project and portfolio financings, including debt, tax equity, structured capital, and other funding solutions, as well as asset and portfolio transactions across the investment lifecycle.
  • Develop, maintain, and validate financial models for project valuation, partnership structures, debt sizing, tax equity, underwriting, and financing scenarios to support investment and capital allocation decisions.
  • Lead transaction management activities, including due diligence coordination, data room administration, information request tracking, document review, and closing process execution.
  • Prepare investment committee materials, valuation analyses, financing comparisons, transaction summaries, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Development, Engineering, Legal, Accounting, Tax, EPC, and Asset Management teams to evaluate opportunities, validate assumptions, and drive transaction execution.
  • Conduct market, financing, and comparable transaction analyses while supporting the development and standardization of internal models, diligence processes, reporting tools, and capital strategy initiatives.

Qualifications
Required
  • 36 years of experience in project finance, risk-adjusted valuation, project management, or energy sector roles.
  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a quantitative field.
  • Advanced Excel skills for project finance modeling; comfort with structured sensitivity analysis. VBA is a plus.
  • High attention-to-detail and organization skills with the ability to manage multiple deal workstreams against deadlines.
Preferred
  • Experience with distributed generation solar and BESS modeling, including degradation and augmentation basics.
  • Familiarity with tax-equity, sponsor equity and leverage concepts.
  • Python/VBA for automation; Aurora/energy-yield tools familiarity
Competencies
  • Strong financial modeling, analytical, and problem-solving skills, able to synthesize complex information and support investment/financing decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to prepare concise analyses, present recommendations, and communicate risks and tradeoffs to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple transactions with competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Sound commercial and risk judgment, understand project finance structures, financing requirements, transaction documentation, and downside risk assessment.

What Success Looks Like (First 3 Months)
  • All models pass independent QA with zero arithmetic or linkage errors before reaching investment approval.
  • Diligence trackers and data rooms are audit-ready, with document-to-model tie-outs for all key assumptions.
  • Grow trust and become teams go-to for pricing outputs and sensitivity designs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
The candidate is ideally located in New York or Northeast Region with Eastern Time hours expected. The position is ideally hybrid with onsite NYC office days but can be US-only remote for the right candidate. This role may involve occasional in-person meetings in Baltimore and NYC offices.
Compensation
$ 95-125k base + bonus + equity (commensurate with experience)

Flexible work from home options available.
