Job description

Data Center Superintendent

Position Summary

The Data Center Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day construction activities of data center projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards. This role provides field leadership and coordinates subcontractors, vendors, field personnel, and project management teams throughout the construction process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily field construction activities on data center projects.
  • Direct subcontractors, trade partners, and field personnel to ensure work is performed according to project plans and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain short-term and daily construction schedules.
  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and architectural activities to minimize conflicts and delays.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate schedule, manpower, material, and productivity issues to project management.
  • Conduct daily site walks and verify quality, workmanship, and compliance with approved drawings.
  • Enforce site safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements.
  • Lead daily coordination meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning activities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and change orders for field impacts.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning activities, and turnover requirements.
  • Track material deliveries and ensure materials are available when required.
  • Identify potential construction issues and develop solutions with project management and design teams.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction supervision experience; data center, mission-critical, industrial, or commercial construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple subcontractors and construction trades.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in mission-critical facilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Knowledge of construction safety practices and OSHA requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage changing priorities.
  • Proficiency with construction management and scheduling software is preferred.
  • OSHA 30 or equivalent safety training preferred.
  • Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, or shifts when required by the project schedule.

  • Switchgear and electrical distribution
  • Chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC systems, and mechanical cooling

  • Commissioning and integrated systems testing
  • Mission-critical construction and turnover procedures
