Job Title: Structural Welder

Job Description

This role focuses on structural welding in a custom shop environment, working on short runs of various steel and aluminum products. You will handle the full process from layout and setup through fitting, welding, and quality testing, while safely managing materials up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural welding within a shop-based environment on short-run projects involving steel, aluminum, and stainless materials.
• Read and interpret blueprints to plan and execute accurate layouts and welds.
• Complete layout, setup, and fitting of components prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and fit-up.
• Execute FCAW and GMAW welding processes to meet structural and quality requirements.
• Conduct quality testing and inspection of welds to ensure they meet specified standards and tolerances.
• Operate bandsaws, shears, drill presses, and ironworking equipment to cut, shape, and prepare materials for welding.
• Use a variety of shop tools and machinery, including plasma cutting equipment, in a safe and efficient manner.
• Handle and lift materials and components weighing up to 50 lbs as part of daily tasks.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all safety procedures and best practices.
• Collaborate with other team members in the shop to complete custom projects on time and to specification.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience with FCAW (flux core) and GMAW welding processes.
• CWB certification in FCAW horizontal and flat positions.
• Strong fitting skills for structural applications.
• Ability to read and interpret structural blueprints.
• Hands-on experience working with structural steel, aluminum, and stainless materials.
• Proficiency using bandsaws, shears, and drill presses in a fabrication environment.
• Capability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Attention to detail with a focus on weld quality and accuracy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• MIG and TIG welding.
• Quality control experience related to welding and fabrication.
• Experience operating ironworking equipment.
• Comfort working with a variety of shop machinery, including plasma cutting equipment.
• Willingness to work in a custom shop environment with live animals present in the office area.

Work Environment

This position is based in a custom shop located approximately 25 minutes south of Calgary. The facility has recently expanded, adding new space for a plasma cutter and other modern machinery, creating a well-equipped and evolving fabrication environment. The shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., offering a consistent daytime schedule. The front office has a few cats that roam the area, so the setting is best suited for individuals without cat allergies. The role involves hands-on work with structural steel, aluminum, and stainless materials, and regular use of equipment such as bandsaws, shears, drill presses, ironworkers, and plasma cutting tools in an industrial shop setting

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Calgary, AB.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Calgary,AB.
