Job description

Job Summary

Salas O’Brien is seeking a Structural Engineer II to provide structural design of framing and foundations for industrial buildings and equipment.

Job Duties
  • Provide structural design of framing and foundations for industrial buildings and equipment for chemical, food and beverage, consumer products, and pharmaceutical facilities.
  • Support project lead structural engineer in providing proposals, investigation reports, calculations, modeling, and drawing creation on several projects simultaneously in various stages of design and construction.
  • Work to deliver technically correct and graphically complete project documents including drawings and sketches.
  • Design three‑dimensional structural models and prepare two‑dimensional plans, sections, details, sketches, and accompanying technical documents to form construction document packages at the direction of project lead structural engineer.
  • Proactively request information needed to progress work and inform others of information they need to complete their work. Attend project and discipline/department meetings as required.
  • Deliver discipline project scope of services on‑time and within budget. Collaborate with other in‑house engineering discipline leads.
  • Ensure conformance of the discipline's work with customer and company standards and practices.
  • Manage issuance of documents for quality control through the department and office.
  • Present model and project design information at team meetings and client walkthrough.
  • Adhere to discipline best practices for consistent drawing presentation.
  • Perform clash detection tests for issuance packages against other disciplines’ models.
Minimum Qualifications
  • U.S. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or the foreign degree equivalent.
  • 1 year’s experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Passage of FE Exam.
  • Experience with the detailing of concrete and structural steel relevant to the chemicals, consumer goods, food & beverage, or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Experience performing quantity take‑off on projects for development of probable construction cost.
  • Experience reviewing vendor submittals including structural steel, concrete mixes, bar joist, and other relevant shop drawing submittals and vendor equipment to verify compliance with construction documents.
  • Experience preparing structural construction documents, structural systems, graphical standards, and terminology.
  • Experience with Autodesk’s Revit Structure, AutoCAD, and Navisworks Manage.
