Job description

The Structural Engineering I position, located in our headquarters office in downtown Chicago, plays a key role in supporting the planning, design, and analysis of structural systems for a variety of projects, including buildings, infrastructure, and other complex structures. Working under the mentorship and guidance of senior engineers, this role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience across multiple phases of structural engineering projects.

Responsibilities include assisting with field inspections, collecting and analyzing data, preparing detailed reports and documentation, and contributing to the design and analysis of structural systems. The Structural Engineer I will also support the preparation of design calculations, drawings, and technical specifications, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. In addition, this role provides construction engineering support to contractors, helping to troubleshoot issues that arise during project execution and ensuring that design intent is achieved in the field.

The Structural Engineer will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across the company, gaining exposure to diverse projects and contributing to innovative solutions that enhance safety, functionality, and sustainability. What you will do:
  • Assist with structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures using hand calculations, structural analysis software, and other accepted methods
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to meet project goals
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, and technical reports
  • Review requests for engineering services to determine that adequate information is provided to complete serviceย 
  • Review building/bridge structures and foundations for existing and proposed usesย 
  • Review Quality Assurance (QA) and final review on structural analysis reportsย 
  • Generate required engineering reports
  • Conduct site visits and assist with field inspections to verify construction compliance
  • Answer structure-related inquiries from internal and external customersโ€ฏย 
  • Keep abreast of new technical methods and development related to structural engineering
  • Complete specialized engineering assignments requiring complex calculations
  • Ensure accurate project status reporting to facilitate accurate project trackingย 
Who you are:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in civil, or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited institutionย 
  • 0-2 years of structural engineering drafting experienceโ€ฏโ€ฏย 
  • 1 year of experience drafting with AutoCAD or Revit preferred
  • EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification or ability to obtain is preferred
  • Knowledge including, but not limited to, the following software systems: Revit, RISA, Tedds, and ETABS
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suiteย 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skillsย 
  • Fundamental knowledge of structural engineering principles and building materials
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (IBC, ACI, AISC, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
