Job description


The design lead oversees the design team in successfully planning, executing, and delivering primarily large-scale projects.

Responsibilities include:

โ€ข Act as the primary design engineer of record and project lead for projects congruent with experience.

โ€ข Provide regularly scheduled project reviews to review design progress, schedule, outstanding issues, etc. to

provide guidance and support to design staff.

โ€ข Sign and seal plan sets as appropriate for level of involvement in the project.

โ€ข Create or direct schematic design layouts and establish initial design direction.

โ€ข Plan out project tasks, priorities, timelines, and delegate tasks to project engineers and designers.

โ€ข Perform QA/QC of delegated tasks.

โ€ข Provide technical support and develop expertise of project engineers as necessary.

โ€ข Communicate and coordinate with and between clients and design teams.

โ€ข Provide design team assistance with complex RFIs and CA issues.

โ€ข Provide guidance and/or generate Program of Requirements and Master Plans.

โ€ข Help develop additional augmentation procedures and integration.

โ€ข Generate proposals as necessary.

โ€ข Meet deadlines.

โ€ข Mentor staff on engineering design and project delivery.

โ€ข Other duties as assigned and necessary.

Education/ Experience:

  • Required: Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering
    • Preferred: Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • 5-10 years of engineering experience with project management experience
  • Experience in the use of various structural design codes and specifications including but not limited to IBC, IRC, ASCE 7, ACI, PCI, AISC, NDS, and TMS
  • Experience in design and detailing of various construction materials, including steel, cold formed metal framing, conventional and post-tensioned concrete, concrete masonry, and conventional and engineered wood
  • Experience in the design and analysis of building structures
  • Experience in the development of comprehensive construction documents

Skills and special requirements/licensing:

  • Registered P.E. in the state of Texas
  • Bluebeam, Autodesk REVIT, RISA, or RAM Structural System experience is a plus.
  • Being solutions-minded and self-initiating
