Job description

Thornton Tomasetti applies engineering and scientific principles to solve the world's challenges. An independent organization of creative thinkers and innovative doers collaborating from offices worldwide, our mission is to bring our clients' ideas to life and, in the process, lay the groundwork for a better, more resilient future. We provide support and opportunities to our employees to achieve their full potential and cultivate a rewarding career.
Our Structural Engineering practice collaborates with architects, building owners, and builders to design elegant solutions for projects of all types, sizes, and levels of complexity. From designing the world's tallest buildings and most extended spans to engineering inventive "jewel-box" structures and designing major expansion projects, we continually seek the best balance among the demands of form, function, sustainability, constructability, schedule, and budget.
Your Role
As a Senior Engineer in our Structural Practice, you will take on increasingly complex analysis, design, and detailing assignments across a wide range of building types. You'll contribute meaningfully to small and mid-size projects and selected components of larger, iconic structures while exercising sound judgment, proposing design adaptations, and guiding junior staff. You will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where you'll continue to deepen your technical expertise, expand your project responsibilities, and gain exposure to client interactions and elements of project management.
What You'll Do
  • Take ownership of structural analysis, design, and detailing tasks of growing complexity, evaluating, selecting, and applying appropriate engineering methods, tools, and building codes.
  • Develop and refine construction documents in a BIM environment while proposing modifications, solving non-routine challenges, and ensuring quality through thoughtful self-review.
  • Collaborate proactively with architects, builders, and engineers from multiple disciplines, communicating your technical needs, design assumptions, and coordination requirements in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide technical guidance and day-to-day support for interns and entry-level engineers, helping them learn best practices and navigate project tasks.
  • Expand your project exposure by observing client interactions, gaining insight into scopes, services, and fee structures, and building a strong professional network within TT and across the industry.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of structural engineering experience with growing proficiency in tools such as SAP2000, ETABS, RAM, StructurePoint Software, and Revit, and experience contributing to the design of steel, concrete, and timber systems.
  • Effective communication with a proactive approach to workload, mentoring, and skill development.
  • Initiative to deepen your expertise in both technical and project delivery fundamentals.

Benefits
Depending on your employment status, benefits may include:
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, AD&D, Disability and other voluntary benefits
  • Flexible Spending Accounts for Medical & Childcare
  • Paid Time Off, Family Leave for New Parents, Volunteer Time
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Commuter Transit (where available)
  • 401k retirement savings with Company matching on employee contributions and/or qualified student loan repayments
  • Fitness Reimbursement
  • And other various wellness, diversity/inclusion and employee resource programs and initiatives
